Ive been looking into getting a propane kit. Right now my truck is stock except for exhaust. I dont care at all for extra power. I think these trucks are built perfect from the factory. I cant help but to be drawn in by the increase in mpg with the propane kits. I also know if something seems to good to be true it is. What are the drawbacks if any to running a propane system. Remember I'm in it for the increase in mpg not the power and if anybody wants to recommend what they feel is a good kit or some pointers please let me know. Go easy on me, I'm new to the propane stuff. Thanks

If you want to do it for mileage, the key to saving money is the ratio of the cost of lp to #2. You need to be able to buy lp for 2/3 the price of #2 or less to save money. Typically, you will need to buy lp in bulk to do this, as lp has gone up along with other fuels, although not as much. So, if #2 is $3.00/gal and lp is less than $2.00, it will save you some. The other benefits are cleaner oil, cleaner emissions, and more range from your tank of #2. My kit tends to be more of an alternative fuel system since it can deliver ALOT of propane if you want it to. I have gotten as much as 60 mpg on #2 on my Dmax. There is a small efficiency gain to be had, but it still pretty much boils down to exchanging #2 btus for lp btus. Since lp has 1/3 less btus, that is what accounts for it needing to be cheaper per gallon to break even.
