Does the G80 locking differential work in reverse or only in forward gears ? My right rear dug a hole while the left rear stayed high , dry and stationery. When I asked the dealer they said that it did not work in reverse. The Eaton web site says that it should, so back I went. Anyway,the factory advisor gave them some tests to run on it to see if it needs a tear down for inspection and repair if needed. Mine works fine in reverse.

I can tell you from personal experience that it works as well in reverse as it does in forward. There is a slight incline on my driveway and this winter I found out what happens trying to back the truck up a snowy driveway and the locker kicks in. Look in the glovebox at the options sticker from the factory. If you have 'G80' in that list, then you have the locker.

Thanks for the info. Yupper, it was there. And the speedo says 4800. Looks like it's time for a fluid change.

If you're truck came with the "HD Towing Package", that includes 6.6 DMax, Alli, and G80 locker. At least, that's my understanding.

Not necessarily with the Allison. I've got the locker and the ZF, with the HD towing package. Easiest way is to have a look at the factory sticker, or go to your dealer and get them to run the VIN and they'll tell ya in a hurry!!

I think you confused towing with power. There is a HD power package that included the Allison, Dmax and G80, along with a $1000.00 discount for it. Most of the Dmax, Allison trucks were ordered that way, but having the Dmax, Allison doesn't guarantee it.


The G80 RPO code on the glovebox lid is the real easy way to tell.
