Have read faq's here and tryed finding pictures of but they are not clear. Is it about 2" long 1" wide and 1/2" thick with a plug and three wires going to it. Would like to check connections but want to identify first. Chilton manual useless in this case too. thanks in advance. Daryl

The PMD is located on the driverside of the IP, it has a 6 wire connector, and it is black.

i think youre thinking of the boost sensor(top of intake). the pmd is about the size of a deck of cards and resides on the drivers side of pump(like quantum said). it kindof looks like part of the pump but can be simply unplugged and relocated with a new one and a cooler... just an fyi
if you still cant find it let us know.. im sure someone has a picture to help

found it replaced it still did not fix problem. truck used to start fine run ok till warm then lose power. Still run but take long time to get anywhere.Act like the lift pump was not pushing enough fuel when needed changed that no help. This morning will not start and lots of white smoke. Now thinking throttle positioning senser, computer or IP itself. Any other suggestions. thanks Daryl

Daryl, You need to put your truck's information in your signature or in a post. Different years and engine models have different problems and fixes. Welcome to the site though. Hope we can get you up and running soon.

I talked to Daryl few minutes ago, think he's driving a 97 F engine. Sounds like the truck used to run fine and gradually became less powerfull and now has no power and is going into limp mode on him. He's changed the PMD, lift pump, new filter and most things check out but it has no current codes (no SES but it works on WTS), will have to scan the history to see whats there. They fiddled with the IP and now it may be slightly tilted to the passengers side and he's getting a no start and white/grey smoke.
I'm thinking his timing is just to far out now and i'm going to try and get there to at least scan it for him. It almost started for him while on the phone. His pump has around 250k km's on it, truck has 457,000 km's
His slow loss of power may just be a worn chain and gear, if we get it timed i think/hope it'll be ok. Now all i have to do is find the time to get there!
Actually Daryl if you get it running half decent this afternoon you could take a drive to Trochu tonight

Correct me if I'm wrong but won't you get a code if it's that far out of time.
Managed to get running adjust as suggested by CR and seem to run better. took it to temp drove 4-6 blocks stalled restarted then went to limp mode again.
update on truck, fuel prssure 5.5, pump timing within specs low vacum @ 15, mechanic that did diagnostics suggested plugged particle collecter/spark arrester have since cut that out replaced with straight pipe no change mechanic says IP is screwed. Is this worth actually fixing with miles on engine? Had wanted to pull trailer up to 15,000pds and have been told that 6.5 don't like to be worked that hard and would not last long. Anyone have thoughts on this ???

Were there any codes and what were the timing numbers? TDC offset?
That many miles won't like a 15K trailer without further mods thats for sure. I don't think i'd want to pull that heavy trailer with mine on a steady basis. Occationally maybe.
Stu @ Dagger Diesal did the checks says there were no codes and would only say that timing was in specs. Adamant that all sensers checked out by diagnostics. I knew it was a risk when I bought the truck that IP may go But was hoping for time. Reason I planned on pulling a heavy trailer was for 4x4 recovery around town and some can be pretty heavy. You could probaly tell me what it would cost to pull moter myself and rebuild it myself.

You can talk to Nick in Edmonton about a total rebuild, he's fair with his pricing and will do quality work. He may need your first born and borrow your wife for a couple of days for security though. :D
sounds fair but only couple days and only first??? I have rebuilt 453 Detroits @ work so I have some basic ability. Putting it together wouldn't be tough it's knowing what mods to do. Like to buy basic rebuild kit is what $4000? whole new moter from GM is $9500 kit has to cheaper than that.
