Hello. Im a Heavy Equipment Technician and have not dealt with this type of stuff on rear axles before, especially with trucks. I have a gmc 3/4 ton duramax with 204,000 km on it and i have changed my rear end oil regularly.. perhaps every 50/55k. So, one time im doing it and my friend tells me i need some friction modifier. I said Wtf is that? He says it will prevent chattering and prolong my diff life. I've filled my diff with Castrol Syntec Full Synthetic 75w90 which apparently "exceeds" specs for limited slip diffs. My diff has never made any noise around corners, and performs great especially since im a lunatic driver who likes smoking rubber. My question is should i start using this friction modifier crap, or screw it and keep using this oil. Personally I think its just so stealers can make more money. haha. Any Opinions? Thank You

Not needed with our type of limited slip. The modifier is only used in aftermarket limited slips or stock F*rd limited slip diffs.

Friction modifier is used on POSI's (limited slip). We have lockers, a whole different animal, no f-modifer needed

Eddie,
DO you have the G80 differential? It would be posted in the glove box. If you fill out a signature and tell us more specifics about your truck, we'd be better able to help you out... It's likely that you have the G80 and as was said you're good to go with synthetic only.

I'm not certain about '01-'03. Might have been some different ones.

Only option in 03 was the G80, at least when I ordered my 3500.

there is only one choice for a chevy, open or the eaton g 80. learn from MY mistakes!! DO NOT USE THE ADDITIVE! almost any synthetic will be just fine
