: Edge and Power Pup Stack
Powell 04-22-2004, 11:56 PM So I ended up buying a Edge today!! http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif Needless to say I am really happy. For the next few weeks I'm going to keep my Power Pup, right now I have it stacked (sorta). I'm running on Non-T/H at 75hp and the Pup at 55hp. In T/H I'm running the Edge at 90 and the bully dog at 55. You think that is pretty safe on a stock transmission? I may put the first setting on the 50hp mode to save gas. Its probably the equivalent to like a 115hp chip, which seem to be safe.

Powell 04-23-2004, 01:39 PM Anyone???
Mackin 04-23-2004, 03:22 PM Really wanna know ???
NO !!!! If you push it ,it will heat the clutches ....

Powell 04-23-2004, 03:36 PM When I get in to it I lock out OverDrive. Where should I order the new clutchs, and the shift kit from?? I'm going to go ahead and upgrade my transmission a little so i can shift into 5th gear and not worry about it.
Chris
Powell 04-23-2004, 03:42 PM I was thinking a TransGo Shift kit, C1,C2,C3,C4,C5 kit, and what else do I need? At the most I may ever do is a Edge/Atitude and the 95hp Power Pup.
Mackin 04-23-2004, 03:51 PM Come on now (suncoast) I must (suncoast) remain bias (suncoast) it would not be (suncoast) proper as a (suncoast) moderator to stir you (suncoast) in one (suncoast) direction ....
Depending on where you want to end up power wise will dictate what level of upgrade you pick ....Some say buy as much as you can afford always your option ...
Most will suffice with a single disk converter and a Transgo kit ... That should hold near 500 RWHP without a problem ...
Clutch capacity is added in C1,2,3,and 4 depending on level of upgrade .... C5 is left alone ...

Powell 04-23-2004, 04:08 PM Like I said the most I am going to stack is going to be 125 Edge and a 95hp Bully Dog? What will I need? The Transgo and what else?? Will I suffice with the Transgo and Like the 95hp Edge and 55hp Bully Dog for awhile, like where I wont destroy 5th gear. My daily driving is a 55hp/55hp.
Mackin 04-23-2004, 04:10 PM A converter ....
Mac
Powell 04-23-2004, 04:11 PM eeek.. Guess my stack is going to have to go. I think I could pull off the shift kit, but the converter.. Dealerships not going to like that one.. :(
Mackin 04-23-2004, 04:15 PM eeek.. Guess my stack is going to have to go. I think I could pull off the shift kit, but the converter.. Dealerships not going to like that one.. :(
How will they know ??
Mac
Powell 04-23-2004, 04:17 PM Not sure LOL!!! I'll get the shift kit first, then install a converter... My g/f is going to kill me this summer LOL!!! I cant have a race truck... Already have a 422ci Solid Roller Camaro, but I want some power out of my truck!!!
Powell 04-23-2004, 04:19 PM What is the diff between the Suncoast Stage 1, 2,3 kits? Also how do they compare to like the TTS Tranny Upgrade kit, and converter.
Mackin 04-23-2004, 04:28 PM You have to drop the tranny to install the shift kit so a converter ,well you get the picture .... I would just back down the power till I could do both if I were you ...
The TTS kit is anouther good choice if going with a Converter and Transgo ....
The differance in stages of Suncoast can be found on their site or by calling and talking to Joe Webb ...

Powell 04-23-2004, 04:45 PM Mac, in all Honesty, how does your truck drive compared to stock. The idea behind it is to keep it shifting stock, etc..
Powell 04-23-2004, 04:48 PM I think what I am going to do is, buy the Atitude Monitor and just sell my pup to my buddy so I can save up to buy a Suncoast Stage III or II and then put the big nasty on it LOL!. ;)
Got Juice? 04-23-2004, 08:02 PM Good idea.
That stack will smoke a stock allison before you make 5 passes.
rpbdawg 04-24-2004, 11:21 AM Good idea.

Not that i am proud but I ran a Quad 165/ Hj stack for many passes before any tranny troubles. I just upgraded to suncoast lvel 3 w/ triple lock converter. Once the truck finally shifted correctly I ran a 12.8 w/ small jet(40 something). I had a 1.62 60' ft. Too bad the truck ran out of N20. i still beat a mustang that wanted to Grudge race.
Got Juice? 04-24-2004, 07:57 PM Great times!
Seems that there will be more allison goodness to come soon enough!
Transgo is definately a step in the right direction.FWIW the stock convertor does a reasonable job up to 450RWHP without problem.
After that a convertor is a must to get all the power down.
Transgo is a good solid foundation for the other mods in the interim;and there are a lot of viable choices out there for transmissions. Just my 0.00008 CDN$

Powell 04-24-2004, 09:35 PM So what your saying is the Stock converter will hold 450rwhp or so, and I would just need the transgo?? Because I know a stock Duramax makes about 235-245 + lets just say at the max 190 extra rwhp thats still less then 450rwhp. What about the clutchs on the 4th to 5th shift??

My stock converter and clutches have taken a beating..........http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cry.gif
Initially you will hold a stack.......but not for long.........every limp is damaging.
At this point I can hold a 90 HP juice....barely. I was warned and I knew what the result would be.........so use at your own risk.
The advice would be to limit HP to 90 or less until the installation of a better torque converter and transgo kit as Mackin said.........Diesel Power is holding 435HP and over 900 lbs TQ without issue with a single disk TC and Transgo.
Good Luck.................

When i had the trans out for the new convertor and transgo/stuff installed, we were amazed at the stock convertor in my truck. the material was in excellent condition and no signs of contamination. The cover still measured within service specs as well. It is my opinion that up to 450 with a stock convertor will be ok, but your mileage may vary. Transgo is a nice kit, but will not hold the 600 hp the box says on it, especially in 5th gear in my current stage of power.
