: C5500 Service In CT
csbcomm 05-10-2006, 09:41 AM Hey Guys, I just bought 2 C5500's and so far am having a really hard time finding a dealer in CT to service them. One of the trucks is having a few problems and no local dealers will work on it. Loewman Blasius said that since i didnt buy it there they cant work on it. Partyka had it for two weeks and didnt even get it in the shop. Maritime said it all depends what wrong with it, they cant service the entire truck. Truck center in north haven said that even know they are a medium duty dealer they start at 6500's. Valenti chevy only has one med duty truck tech and he has about 6-8 truck before he can even look at mine. I called m GM rep and told her what was going on and she said she will ry to find some info for me. I told her I was thinking about getting rid of these and she said " i dont blame you one bit", now thats not something you want to hear! I bought the trucks from an awesome dealer down in MD, I saved about 13000 per truck and they had what i wanted in stock.
northwood 05-10-2006, 12:39 PM in the owners packet there is a dealer list of all the gm medium duty dealers in the country, also if you were at a medium duty delaer, the franchise does start with 5500 and goes up. If it a tranmission issue that will have to go to an allison service center.

No gm dealer will touch the allison They will sell it to ya but they wont fix it.
Dirt Dog 05-10-2006, 02:36 PM The GM Medium Duty franchise starts at the C4500 and it doesn't matter whether they sold it or not. If a dealer is turning away warranty work for their franchise because they didn't sell it, they may loose the franchise. If you haven't already, call the Customer Relations Hotline and open a Customer Relations Case on this.
In the Medium Duty line, the dealers are not allowed to do warranty work on them unless they are a Allison warranty dealer.

Even then if a allison service center is with in 100 miles they will send you there.

Its123am 05-14-2006, 11:07 PM what
Its123am 05-14-2006, 11:08 PM I cant believe that, did you try Richards? It in Madison or something like that?
csbcomm 06-14-2006, 11:36 AM Well after having our truck out of sevice for over a month, I finally got it back. The truck went in for a vibration when starting from a complete stop, the dealer replaced the transfer case. Also the check engine light would come on and the truck wouldnt go over 2000 rpm. Dealer replace fuel filter housing. Now the turbo is so loud its crazy sounding. It sounds like a jet is under the hood! the truck only has 2000 miles on it, its got me pretty worried.
Dirt Dog 06-14-2006, 08:56 PM The turbo shouldn't be that loud. Open the hood and take a look. They may not have gotten the hose from the air filter to the turbo on correctly and the clamp tight.
chtucker 06-16-2006, 12:11 PM Regular GM dealer services the 4500
Medium GM dealer services 5500 on up.
The landscape contractor in town who owns 2 4500s takes his trucks to the local Chevy dealer, I have to drive 120 miles to Denver for service with my 5500.
DURAtotheMAX 06-16-2006, 06:31 PM I cant believe that, did you try Richards? It in Madison or something like that?
Richards is in Cheshire IIRC...
Maybe try giving McDermott (east haven, theyre my dealer) a call, theyre a pretty big dealer and if they wont work on Medium duties, they'll probably know of someone who will... 203-466-1000
I have seen some medium duties on the lot there, I dont know if they were 4500's or 5500's tho.
BlkGMCDMax 06-17-2006, 11:36 AM Richards is on RT 10 in Cheshire.. You could also try Terryville Chevy.. i dunno if they service big trucks like that, but i kno they are one of the biggest chevy truck dealers in state

Ours is in for the exact same thing, take off in first and it vibrates, heavier the load the worse it is. Actually did it since day one but was getting better. Took it in anyways cause its not right. So after they replaced the x-fer case did that fix it or?
csbcomm 06-21-2006, 04:45 PM Replacing the transfer cas helped, but there is still a slight vibration, but nothing to worry about. The dealer also said that GM knows about the vibration issue and says that the driveshaft angles also needed to be shimmed. Good Luck!

Ah ok, well I guess Ill see how mine turns out. It had been getting better as time went on, but that still doesnt make it right. When I first got the truck it was terrible.
I wouldnt think it would have anything to do with the xfer case nor the driveline since you only feel it in first, or at least for me its only first gear. Guess time will tell.
