Like it says, i only want better sound now, no TNR, too much $$$, can i JUST buy the LUX AMP and be done with it? And if so is there anything else i need with the amp or do i just change the pins then install, or do i also need to have the HU reporgrammed to LUX VIA Tech 2?

IVE READ ALL THE THREAD AND AM STILL CONFUSED. So thanks in advance for all and any help!

Yes, you can use a LUX amp with your stock unit, BUT, you MUST get the HU flashed to the LUX version. I would have that done first. If you don't (get the HU programmed to LUX specs), you'll burn out the LUX amp instantly.

What Cougar said.

After you rewire the amp plugs,

DO NOT PLUG THE AMP IN UNTIL AFTER YOU HAVE THE RADIO RE-PROGRAMMED TO LUX.

We unfortunately found that teensy, minor little bit of info out just a bit late.......

Also do i need to run the "CLASS II DATA WIRE" if im not using the NAV UNIT?

I am also confused on this "Follow the chart below for current positions (left), and the positions the wires need to be moved to (right), to get the AMP to communicate with the NAV."

Which of these rewirings do i need to do, if i am not using NAV, or is it same for NAV and just upgrading?

I had a 2003 Suburban VIN handy, and used a cass/cd combo radio part number...it looks like all the uplevel radios would use a similar program tree.

This is what I came up with for Y91 LUX programming.

Operating System: 15849620 New software to correct in-plant programming issues.
Tuner: 15064112 North America/Domestic
Audio: 15064134 For C/K/H2: UQ7 with Y91/Y92. For S/T: With UQA, "AMP" appears in Class 2 Message Monitor, Amp. has 3 connectors.
Equalizer: 15126142 New calibrations to reduce chime volume
(You may want the tech to search for 15064086, too. That one is for UQ5/UQ7 speakers, and you may have to access it first to get to 15126142)
System: 15849621 New software to correct in-plant programming issues.

Have your tech check those out. That may be what you're looking for. It looks like the main Y91 program hasn't changed, but most all the others have.

Hope that helps.

O I C, as far as the wiring, just follow the instructions for the LUX upgrade. You dont need to tap into the VSS wire since you are not doing Nav. Doesnt matter if you are doing the NAV or regular headunit. The wires WILL NEED TO BE RE-LOCATED if you have a LUX amp inplace of the OEM (premium) one.

Good luck finding a dealer to do/try it. Some have no ideal even with the instructions listed here. I had to go to 3 dealers.

What dealer finally did it? I am in North county SD, might save me some time if i just go to the same tech who did yours..

Oh yeah what is the VSS wire? Is that this

"One last thing that needs to be done to finish the amp install will be to run a wire from PIN “A1” of the RADIO harness (behind the dash), or PIN “A1” of the rear audio radio harness (mounted in the console for the back seat passengers) to PIN “B10” of the AMP harness. You will need to pull the wire out of the harness and solder a wire to it running to the AMP harness in its correct location. This wire is the “CLASS II DATA WIRE” that will allow the NAV to communicate with the AMP, and the rest of the truck via the BCM (body control module), again……. run a wire from PIN “A1” on either radio, to PIN “B10” on the AMP harness. Follow the chart below for current positions (left), and the positions the wires need to be moved to (right), to get the AMP to communicate with the NAV."

???

Thanks for all your help!

yes. The LUX amp needs Class II data to function.

With all the info out there on the lux amp conversion I thought I could use the search feature to find what I was looking for.....WRONG!!:D

surfrippa,
Sorry for stepping on your thread. Your question is almost what I was looking for.

Can an 06 Bose HU 6 disk changer be used with a 15114454 Amp. What Info should I give the dealer for the reprogram? The Amp is brand new from GM will it need to be programmed? Do you need to run the Mic for the amp and if you don't do you have to change the programming? The rest of the procedure seems straight forward.

Thanks to everyone who has posted all the useful info. Hoping this will be a painless Mod.
Dan

My TNR went to the grave this past weekend. So I installed a 2003 Hummer 6 disk HU that I had laying around and went to the dealer today to have it reprogramed. Your information was quite handy, thanks for that post. Worked out great.
