Even though I now own two 6.5TD trucks I am still a newbie with lots of questions. On my newly aquired 1993, the waste gate has no vacuum port on it or line going to it, is this correct? Is there an OPS and optic sensor on a 1993? A good cloud of white smoke at start up, is it the Glow Plugs? Lastly, I changed the fuel filter on the 1995 and there has been a fuel leak ever since. I switched fuel filters and black plastic retaining ring with the 1993 and the leak has stopped. Is it a bad filter or black plastic retaining ring?

Generally the black plastic ring is fine if not broken in two. The filter you put in may have been bad or the rubber seal on filter not seated properly. I went through two filters from Auto Zone that would not seal properly. I bought a Wix from Napa had no problem.

You probably just didn't have it seated right.

My 93 also has nothing connected to the wastegate. I am assuming that it is just a spring inside and controlls it, but I would like confirmation as well.

As for the cloud of white smoke, probably glow plugs. Figure on $50 to just replace them all and have a fresh start.

92-93 6.5's are all mechanical...alot less problems... yes there is a OPS very easy to get to....
