does the single mass flywheel weigh more than the factory dmf? if so, how much more?

Yes it's heavier. The kit is like 95lbs. I don't know an exact # on the flywheel.

Actually, the shipping weight is 84# fot the kit. IIRC it is only about 10# more than DMF kit.

wouldnt that help with take off from idle. i like to take off in 3rd when i can, and have stalled it out a few times! woundering if this would help with that!

a dual disc kit is a little more challenging to start from a stop or at idle , not because of the weight but because the flywheel/clutch, pressure plate are designed to hold more power so the slip less. I have started from idle on 3rd (by mmistake) but not as easy as 2nd or above idle.

It seemed like 95#'s. I'll answer for you John if ya don't mind :D .It isn't hard to drive at all.Right off it's a little grabby, mainly with a trailer but empty it's not a problem.Once it's broke in you don't even relize it's there. I have probably 8k on mine and don't even know it's there except when I pour the power to it and it doesn't slip like that Censored DMF.

did you pull a trailer before the "break in" period had expired? i would assume that during that "break in" period, not only is the clutch doing its thing but you probably had to adjust your driving technique to compensate for the new feel as well (get use to it)! every straight shift vehicle i have ever driven is different in its own little way. whether its clutch pedal feel, travel or overall shifting.

:offtopic: i have also noticed that there are too different cases of the "hard pedal". after driving for a while, such as interstate driving, then depressing the clutch pedal it seems to be more firm. probably a hydraulic issue, but will this kit cure that as well?

i would also like to thank you all for taking the time to answer these questions for me. these kits are alot of money (should be the installed price. hint, hint!! :joke: ). and i like to know all the details before i purchase something, reguardless of how insignificant it may be!

The inital break in period is like 250 miles if I remember right. I didn't pull a trailer in that time. I was more refering to our break in period, where we get used to it. I personally believe they get easier to operate after about 2-3k. The SBC kit totally eliminates "hard peddle". Sometimes the peddle will even stick on the floor  . That sucks. I know what you mean about the price but considering you will probably never need another clutch and it will hold any amount of power you can throw at it,I feel it's well worth it and will definately do it again when I get another D-Max 6spd.
