I am looking for a camera to put on my truck, on the rear bumper. I have an Alpine IVA-D900 so I don't need a monitor, just a camera and the proper wiring. Anyone know where I could buy a camera without having to purchase a monitor with it. Looking for something that is small and can be concealed easily.

Try www.supercircuits.com (http://www.supercircuits.com) - they have tons of CCTV cameras for all purposes. They will all send out line level video through an RCA jack and that should plug right into your monitor.

Make sure you get a reverse image camera if you want it to appear like your rear view mirror. There are a lot of cameras out there that are inexpensive, but finding a reverse image one was a little more difficult.
I installed my camera in the trailer hitch using a plastic hitch plug as the "carrier" for the camera. The nice part about this is that it is neatly tucked away and most people don't even notice it. The best part is that I can take it out when I use my trailer.

If your looking for a camera that has some style & not bulky look into the Straight Shot Camera.
www.straightshotcamera.com (http://www.straightshotcamera.com)
Call the dealer, this might work with your system.

While the straight shot cam is nice I am not crazy about drilling a hole in my tailgate.
I ran across http://www.hitchcam.com/ and will have one soon.
not sure what the connections are, but crimestopper makes a camera built in to the top of a license plate frame. looks pretty good

What does the unit cost? Are you getting the display? http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Question.gif

I just bought this unit:
http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/uploads/AD1_hitchcam.JPG
It was $150 from Target on-line.

Listing stated that it was "battery powered OR AC-adapter'" but the camera is AC-adapter only. Monitor unit is 3-1/2" x 5" (with a 1" x 1-1/2" color LCD) runs on 4 NiMh AA batteries that can be recharged in the unit with the AC adapter. No biggie, I'm going to get a 4-battery AA box and plug from Radio Shack to run 6V to the camera. Since I have both front and rear hitches, I like the idea of pulling a small battery-powered and cordless unit out when needed and setting it on the bumper for hitching, then putting it away for security.Edited by: Idle_Chatter
i'm looking for one to hang off the back of my 5er but both of these places seem to have a good selection a decent price.

Some really good links in this message thread, my thanks to everyone contributing.
It would seem "the ideal" to have a flip-down 3.5" flat panel with clean bracketing attached in the middle of the headliner back near the overhead light, or permanently mounted against the back window. Given I usually turn around putting my arm over the passenger seat to look behind me while backing, I could simply flip the panel down and stay in position, or keep an eye on the monitor if attached to the rear window. This will be an interesting project once I figure out which LCD and which camera to buy.
Found another place with a lot of auto electronics:

Here are some more, and probably the best ones (but pricey) if you want a relatively clean OEM look.
