Want to thank all the members who posted info on how to install the fast idle option. I followed the 03 d/a instructions found on this site and the installtion went smooth as silk. The hardest thing was getting the ECM cover off (darn plastic clips). I want to let others know I used a 1/8" drill bit and pushed in through the ECM plug by hand and twisted it back and forth until it removed the rubber/silicone material. I then was able to push my computer terminal through. As far as getting the blue plastic shield off of the top of the ECM plug connector make sure you push the white clips at both ends of the connector inward which aids in removing the blue connector. I pushed a 3/16" drill bit by hand thru the top of the grommet where the hood release cable enters into the firewall (thanks forum for that tip) and twisted the drill bit by hand a couple of times took the wire from the ECM and pushed it through the hole about 8"-12" of it through and was able to reach under the dash and grab it with my hands and tap into the green/white wire on my brake switch plug (helps to remove the plug from the switch to gain better access and remove some of the factory tape). When truck is cold seems I have to push the cruise button in twice, after truck warms up only needs 1 push of the button and fast idle engages. Thanks again forum members http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif

Normal operation for this install is a double push for fast idle the first time, only once after the first cycle.

Congrats on your install. Edited by: nassdmax

Chalie, what did you think of the kit? Anything you would like to see different? I think the wire insulation is a bit thick, that may have given some grief on getting the terminal seated for you

Why would you want the fast idle? I read in another post it didn't matter how long you let the truck idle a diesel would not heat up until you put a load on it. Sorry if the questions seems basic, but I am still waiting for my truck and am learning.

Thanks!

If you've ordered a new Dmax, it will have the fast idle from the factory, part of the LLY engine change. It's automatic if the outside temp is below 32 degrees F. It can be turned off or on through the DIC.
