: Best JL Audio Speakers for the doors???
rojo4214 05-04-2006, 12:09 AM I was looking at putting jl audio in my truck and was wondering which speakers would be the best for my truck. I was thinking components for the front but not sure about the back. I also saw three way components which would be nice if they will fit. How about tweeters in the pillars? I want to put a steathbox with a ten in the console. I also would like a tv screen in the dash and a dvd player in the console with a monitor. any info would be appreciated included pricing and such. thanks.
Antnee77 05-04-2006, 12:16 AM None. J/K, but in all honesty, JL components and coaxials aren't all that great. For the money, there is better stuff out there. Another concern is that many 3-way setups will not fit in the doors without heavy modification. Some will work just by cutting a hole in the door panel, but many need you to move the power window unit and several other things.
rojo4214 05-04-2006, 12:31 AM Well what else would you suggest? I'm still in the planning stage. Do you have aftermarket speakers? I was thinking of putting the 3 inch speakers in the d pillars in the back. Just want a system that sounds good. Thanks.
noproblem 05-04-2006, 12:57 PM Look in my garage, I have all JL's in my truck execpt for the pillars and I have mb quartz because they will fit in the stock location the JL's stuck out and took the stock look out.
I have very close to 10k in my sound system, it is competition quality, you can get cheaper but remember you get what you pay for. Do some checking on the internet to get reviews for the equipment you want. DO NOT trust the opinion of a couple of people when spending this kind of money.
Also keep in mind that different strokes for different folks, I like classic country, Texas Country and classic rock. So that is what my system is designed for. If you like rap or alot of bass my system to you would not be suitable.
6APPEAL 05-04-2006, 02:09 PM Look in my garage. I have a mix of speakers since I wanted to match the driver with the location they would be mounted and each componets strenghts. I'm not really brand specific, nor do I beleive in using on one brand in a system. My music tastes are all over the map (rock, country, old school rap, jazz, classical), so my systems have to be flexiable enough to handle the various music types I listen to. Like noproblem I have a bunch of $$$$$ tied up in my system. How much you want to spend is the biggest determination of how you need to choose the pieces of your system. Read and listen to as much as you can to help you choose. HTH

lftddsl 05-04-2006, 07:35 PM JL TR, XR, and ZR's will all fit in the door, the quality is great and you can get them in coaxil, or component set up. I have installed many, the quality, clarity, and WARRENTY with JL is great. Thats all I will run, I have worked in audio for many years, no i am not going to start they are the best war with anyone but I will say they are one of the best. If there is any modifacations that need to be done at the most you would need to build a spacer to put between the spearker in the door, a piece of 1/4 or 1/2 inch mfd, not hard.

moore87 05-04-2006, 09:24 PM I have to agree with noproblem. You get what you pay for. I have always liked Rockford Fosgate stuff. I have the power series components in my front doors. They weren't too bad, ~$270? I don't remember exactly what I payed for them. I do have 200W RMS going to each door so they give extremely clear sound. Gets pretty loud in there too.
I too listen to country and rock and my stereo is perfect for me.

You have almost 10 grand in your system and you have JL Components? Doesn't sound like it's money well spent. For that kind of money, you can get a much better system professionally installed. Not trying to bad-mouth yours, I'm just trying to put into perspective the kind of money we're talking about.
rojo4214, what kind of music do you listen to?

And you own what kind of speakers and you got all this infinate wisdon where? What brand are you a dealer for? pyramid, mtx, rockford, kicker.
Ok DUDE if you have not heard the system you do not know if it SOUNDS like money well spent our not however you are welcome to come have a listen if you would like to make an assesment. But make sure that you bring your crow that you will be eating I do not cook well.
My system WAS profesionally installed by Autosound in Bedford Texas, which is one of the best names in car audio and video installers in all of Dallas Fort Worth. In addition to ONLY JLs the money that I spent included professional installation. Just FYI they have over 25 hours of installation in my stereo. I have all new wiring ran to all location as well as all the old wires removed. Not to mention dynomat sound lining the entire cab of my truck.
I also have 1200.00 in an alarm system that protects my poor investment of JL's, as well as several other parts not mentioned in my garage.
You passing judgement on my truck is just the kind of stuff that I originally warned him about. I said do research and do not base you decision on a couple of opinions. My opinions or otherwise, but it is funny that overall national ranking of car audio speakers, JL is and for years has been one of the top ranked speakers out there.
In closing someone always has something better and people always want what other people have, but I would never tell you that you buying a set of PRO CRAP tires was money well spent because Nittos are better for the money. It is an opinion, that you have nice tires or truck (yours not mine) just as your opinion of my stereo is not money well spent. I like it and I am very happy with the investment I made. Just like you like your tires or feel that was a good solid investment, unless that is all you could afford so you bought them out of despration. I am sorry that you know everything but your opinions are just that an opinion. With no backing to your claim unless that was you that was under my steering wheel last night listening to my stereo while I was driving. In that case your opinions count because you heard my sound last night but your mouth was too full to comment in any way good or bad STAY HARD.
Antnee77 05-05-2006, 04:14 PM No need to be a douche about it, I was just saying, you can do better than JL for that money. I know it is an opinion, so maybe a better speaker won't necessarily sound better to you, but it's just an idea. I have no idea why you have to stoop to such a low level after I make a simple comment. 10 grand is a lot of money, you could have gotten a set of Morel 3-ways or Focal K2Power 2-ways. I don't install or sell this stuff for a living, I do it for friends and as a hobby.
BTW, you're right, I haven't heard your system at all, so it may sound amazing, but I have heard JL Z Series components in their full potential, with the 'wonderful' JL Slash series amps powering them, and I have definitely heard better.
6APPEAL 05-05-2006, 04:17 PM And so it starts  ! To each his own, but remember that opinions are like a-holes, everybody has one :blahblah: . You have to figure out what YOU like, to heck with what someone else likes. Your the one who has to spend the money and listen to it. I have big money in my system, but have the time and skills to install it myself, so I saved probably $2,000 on the install. Is it perfect, heck no! It could look a lot more "professional" by cleaning up/prettying up the routing of the wiring. I also do installs for other folks, they make me money so mine was a get it done quick job. Is it finished, never! I'm already thinking about a new head unit along with a drop down 15" or 17" montor and going to a 5.1 configuration. Maybe changing the mids and tweets, not counting changing the sub configuration.
I would love to be able to listen to several other members systems, noproblem's included, and have them listem to mine. I'm constantly compairing, improving, tweaking, looking for something better. I'll get off my soapbox now:banghead: .

ok, I will keep what I have and you keep being a good friend. In my OPINION (which I researched) for my set of ears JL were the better choice for me. Focal did not seem to be the answer for my liking for different reasons. One of which was quality of the product (I was not impressed with the production quality) second was the dealer that I went to did not seem to have a good grasp on the product or knowledge of the company that makes them.
I put a great deal of pride in making good decisions. In my OPINION I made a good solid choice and if I had to do if over I would have the exact same system installed.
I regards to stooping low, I am confused I am unsure what you mean, I said nothing negative about you, nor did I question you intelligence. If I hurt your fellings I am sorry, please forgive me until next time.

I didn't see him being a douche, you started with telling him that he didn't spend his money wisely. IMO that wasn't right, that is like someone telling you your system sucks. Would you like that? Didn't think so...
I personally would love to have his system in my truck, just can't afford it, or justify spending that much money in ANY system, be it JL, FOCAL, or whatever it is that you like.
I know of a few members that really enjoyed his system....
Antnee77 05-05-2006, 08:18 PM It was just the last paragraph that seemed pretty messed up. I wasn't insulting you, I was just saying, I know there are some awesome speakers out there, and I figure it'd be more worth your money to go with a better speaker and amp. As long as you're happy I guess...
...and a peace fell over the electrical section of the forum. A beautiful silence as two great warriors put down their soldering irons and hi-fi catalogs to accept each other's opinions as, well, not the same as their own. A cool breeze picked up as noproblem and antnee77 dialed up the megawatts of their supreme sound systems and the rest of the forum enjoyed the breeze and the sweet sound; and it was good. In the immortal words of Bill and Ted, "Be good to each other" and "Party on Dude"...):h
Sorry, couldn't resist! :D
BlueOx03 05-07-2006, 03:07 PM I've got the JL XR 653cs three ways in my frount doors powered by a 300/2 and they sound pretty damn good! The XR 650 CSi s are very nice, easy to install and easy to find.

I was thinking of putting them in my front doors and putting 6 1/2 components or coaxials in the rear doors. I was going to either get the 300/4 or 450/4 amp to push all of them. How was the fit in the front doors? Any problems? Did you do them yourself or have them put in? I am planning on adding a stealthbox with 1 jl audio 10 as well pushed by a JL 250 amp. Let me know what you think. Thanks.
