ok, i have read the sticky's and am still totally confused on these programmers.

So i am looking at the edge juice attitude. how complicated will this install be and is there alot more stuff besides just the programmer i need to do to my truck?

or what programmer requires no drilling or tapping and performs well and gives some better dog gone fuel econo.

Edge is a plug-in box, but does require some cable routing into the cab for control functions. The attitude is an optional monitor that displays boost and EGT, but you do have to mount a probe for the EGT, which requires drilling and tapping the exhaust manifold.

For any kind of increased performance, you really should install a pyro to keep an eye on your exhaust temps. Of course, personally, I would not be doing any heavy towing STOCK without a pyro gauge.

To completely avoid all drilling, wiring, and other mechanical things, you can go for a downloader-type programmer. BullyDog, SuperChips, TTS, Predator, etc.... these plug into the OBD-II port under the dash and reprogram the factory computer. Advantage is that some can adjust your speedometer calibration for larger tires. For the '06, the only programmer currently capable of adjusting the speedo is the BullyDog Power Pup. For an '05 and older, the Dog or the Predator can do it... not sure about the TTS and PPE products.

Still, I would not go higher than the "level 1" or "tow-economy" tunes without a pyro.

Rich, Thanks for the info. what all is involved in installing the pyro. My truck is still under warranty :( is all of this stuff removable and not real obvious if i have to take in for warranty repairs?

Just installing the pyro and boost gauges will have no (legal) impact on your warranty. I say "legal" because some dealerships may try to deny coverage, but legally, they have to prove that the aftermarket part caused the damage.

Some dealers also use the existence of aux gauges as "evidence" that the owner has used a programmer or other power adder, which again, will only legally void the warranty if the programmer caused the failure.

The problem is, a few people are running high power, blowing up their engine/tranny, and then claiming warranty repairs. It hurts those of us who are honest and running conservative power levels and NOT out racing.

Do a search for "hoot method" of installing the pyro... it's a 1-beer job :)

For the Edge, the box itself is easily removable. The Attitude can be a bit of a PITA, as can the controller for adjusting power levels.
A downloader takes only a few minutes to "uninstall", but then I would drive the truck for a week or so "stock" to reset any diagnostic tests that may be cleared by removing the program. That would be for a scheduled dealer trip where you have time.
For a breakdown where you need to go in ASAP, you should be okay deprogramming and then disconnecting the batteries for an hour or so.

ok, i read the hoot method , doesn't seem that hard of a job at all. Now, about the boost gauge thing.
is that something that will come with the attitude kit or is that seperate as well, or do you guys suggest going with a set like from socal and then hooking the edge juice to that and that way if i ever want to try something different i can use the seperate guages. Also, if i go with the socal dual guages ( I love the way they look btw ) do they come with the thermocouples or is there a complete kit from them to do this, I am ready to buy, just need to know where to spend my money and so forth.
