Greetings everyone. I hope this is the correct place for my question. I am looking to buy a 2003 GMC HD Diesel crewcab 4x4. The person selling it says it has an Allison transmission and I thought they all came with such, however my neighbor (who has a 2006 Chevy D-max) states that some do and some dont. There is no paperwork with the truck however I have the VIN # if that helps. If some do and some dont (have the the Allison tranny) is there anyway to find out? This is my first diesel purchase and I admit Im a bit lost....any positive help appreciated.

Well from what I know it a Allison with the Duramax if it's a automatic. The clutch/stick shifters are the only other option.

If its a duramax Diesel and an Automatic then its definitely going to have an Allsion transmission, Manual could be a ZF 6 speed.
Good Luck with finding a truck :)

What does your neighbor do for a living? Only Allisons are available in the Duramax as far as automatics.
