Anyone find a source for a locking fuel cap for the LLY, or can I use one from a LB7?

The AC Delco GT250 is a locking cap that fit's the 01-03's - not sure about the 04's but I would think it should fit. The tether from the original non-locking cap also fits the GT250. I bought one for my 03 from AC-Partsdirect.com ( http://www.oewarehouse.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=O&Product_Code=GT250). WalMart also sells a Stant locking cap that will fit for around $10 but it doesn't have the tether strap option.

I want to find a locking cap also. My 2004 GMC Sierra 3500 D/A 4X4 CC LB has the big hole in the filler neck. The locking gas caps mentioned above appear to be for the smaller filler neck. Or, am I wrong about this?

I bought one a walmart for $10 and change. They only have two locking caps, the one you want is the cheaper one. If you want I can get the part # off the package tonight. Works great!

In talking with the service manager at the GMC dealership about a locking cap, I was told that they have seen a problem with getting a seal around the locking gas caps including the one made by GM for this truck. Air gets into the tank and the check engine light will come on. Has anyone noticed this problem?

I took mine into wally world with me to match it up--and it is an exact match, minus the retaining strap! Two tanks of fuel and no lights!

I bought the one from AC direct above, reused the tether strap, no problems at all. It's identical to the original cap with the addition of a key, even has the diesel fuel logo.

951, I almost bought the one from them until they tried to charge me more for shipping than the part cost. I also bought some fuel filters from them and they still wanted to charge a seperate charge for the shipping!

I had one on a 2002 Duramax for 35,000 miles with no problem and for 5000 miles now on my 2004. It was from Auto Zone.

With the cost of this engine, it is too fold. A person has to be thinking to put fuel in the vehicle, and it keeps others from adding water, soda, gas, sugar or whatever that would be a real problem. It also makes anyone else who is driving it think twice about fueling it as well, they cannot top it off before they bring it back for instance!

Having read about concerns in using a locking gas cap designed for earlier models on my 2004, I took another route. Went on internet and bought a new locking door for the gas cap. It was pricey - about $80 for a stainless steel door, but it eliminates any concern about lights coming on and it is very secure. I live in Oakland, CA, where people love to pour sugar syrup into any SUV or truck that they find on the street.
