I bought this truck just a week ago, really wanted the navigation in it. Its not an option on this trucks that have everything else for some reason. On a dodge you can get the nav with a truck with cloth seats, but not from gm?. Well I have been looking at some of the online gm part stores for the factory nav that came in trailblazers, tahoes, suburbans and cadillacs. I'm am little confused as to what all I would need to do this. Does anyone have and experience with installing one of these? If you can you give me a list of everything that I would need to order from gm and about how much it all will cost? I assume that it will be plug and play with all the functions the 6 disc had, any reflash to the body control required for the tech 2?

Thanks.

33 pages, looks like that should answer any question and then some. Quick ebay search, only one and its $2000, I sure would love to find one on ebay for $1000.

Do a search using "TNR" (the touch navigation unit) and you'll get a lot of information. There is an excellent discussion and instructions in the DIY section.

The TNR cost $2k from JP customs or less if you can find it on eBay. It uses all the steering wheel buttons, works with factory XM and OnStar and will simply plug in to replace the current head unit. It does not have a CD changer, you would need to get the additional changer (I went the iPod route instead). It is not capable of supporting the real-time traffic info from XM. It's advantage is it's simple.

If you do the LUX amp upgrade, it will sound better too. I went nuts and also added bluetooth telephone connection and a back-up camera. If you do a search, you'll find photos of my install.

Thats exactly what I am looking for. I really don't care that much about the 6 disc anymore, since I recently got a Ipod so everything is on there and its alot easier the changing cd's for me. Price is a little higher then I expect, I was planning on in the $1200-1500 range. Any suguestions for finding one at the best price, with out getting hooked on one?

Just got to keep looking. I was VERY lucky to pick up on LUX Nav touchscreen headunit for $550 delivered. Also it was "vin" cleared. Lux amp back then didnt cost as much as they are going now. The 6CD changer was about $100.

You could still go NAV touchscreen but not the LUX version and use your current prem Bose amp. Might save a few $$$.

I think I want the lux version. I really like the looks of it. So the lux is just for the bose speakers, right? I think I will just read some more, and search and not get in any hurry. Its not that the extra $500 will stop me, but I'd like the best deal possible. So if any of see and good deals out there, let me know if you would. I would really appreaciate it.

You guys that got yours for $1000, are the new in box or take outs?

I think I would prefer new, if the cost was only a couple hundred more.

I think you are confused a little.....

The Nav units come in LUX & non-LUX touchscreen and LUX & non-LUX non-touchscreen.

If you go LUX, you will need a LUX amp. Prices on eBay seem to be close for all models.

I usually am. SO the lux Y91 with the amp for it, will give me better sound? I think I understand everything else. I can but the rpo y91 and buy the lux amp for better sound. Or buy a non lux version touch screen and have sound like I do today? The lux amp where does it go, do you remove the one that is currently in the truck and put the lux amp in its place, or is it an extra?

Only other question I think I have is the GPS antena. Where does it go?

thanks again

The LUX gives you better sound...way better.

You can go non-lux w/ Nav touchscreen.

The LUX amp goes in the same location where the truck non-Lux amp is currently....in the center console.

The GPS antenna goes under the dash.

Everything about this is in that link:

Last couple questions I think I have. When finding a used Lux amp, I need to find one from a sierra denali or EXT, right?

How bright is the face of it at night? Doesn't blind you or anything does it?

any lux amp from a 2003+ Denali, Denali XL, Escalade, Sierra Denali, Escalade EXT, Escalade ESV... doesnt matter, they'll all work.:)

The non-lux and lux TNR's work and look identical. The only difference is internally. One works with your currrent stock Bose amp and one works with the Lux amp. You need to change some of the pins around on the amp harness, but other than that the Lux amp is "plug and play". I show you how to do all that in my lengthy install how-to guide.;)

Tmoore: Some of us have ordered our Lux amps from JPCustoms. They are new and already programmed, and include extra wiring ,connections etc and an alternate set of instructions that differ slightly to the ones Ben wrote. Either method of install will work and the end result is well worth it. You'll pay more for the Lux amp then ebay but it is warrantied and JP Customs has great tech support if you need any help.

LOL

are you sure they will go dead? I dont have those '662 amps on my "black list" of amps. The only ones that are on my evil amp list are '601 '044. If you buy one of those and it works, great, but DONT TOUCH IT!!!

Im surprised JP Customs doesnt recognize this and use a different amp. AFAIK, the prices are all roughly the same for all of the Lux amps. '454, '445, '675 amps work fine. I used to run an '044 H2 amp, but needed to sell it when I installed my rear C-pillar twiddlers. For some reason, they werent enabled with the current '044 amp program, and I did not want to reprogram it for fear of it going dead. I currently run a '675 amp and it works perfectly, reprogrammed a couple times, AudioPilot noise compensation mic calibrated a few times (AudioPilot still sucks tho, I never use it), and its still running like a top.

yea, i'm certain. played fine then i played with it, and broke it. i tried to recalibrate to escalade and it wouldn't play any thing the head unit put to it. but i still had chimes and the mic calibration would still make noise just no music. i'm running a 044 now and i have an 454 on the shelf (figured with the 044's reputation if i ever needed some cash the 454 would be easier to sell)

I think that time will prove that none of the h2 amps can be programmed. I’m saying this because if you build an h2 on your tech2 and go to amps there isn't a recalibration for it and they run two calibrations in H2’s (for the suv and the truck body styles)

Well in two days I have learned alot about the nav radio conversion. I am going to watch around and get the radio and amp some time in the next few weeks.

Duratothemax, read your essay on the conversion. Very helpful and very well written. It explains the whole process in great detail, and shouldn't leave many questions unanswered.

Well I still have one more question, this one doesn't really have to do with the install just something I got to wondering about. In some of the pics you guys have put up I see it says gmc or has the chevy bowtie on it. How does that work? Is it programed into the radio you buy, or once its all plugged in does it know what make of truck its installed in? Just something I wondered about.
What about the JPcustoms? Not a good idea to buy from them or a goodplace. It looks like it might end up being an easier process.

Thanks to everyone for all the information on this topic.

The nav radio is pretty smart...it has every GM brand splash screen installed in it. When you plug it in, it reads the VIN from the BCM and displays the appropriate splash screen. Its all automatic.
