jdugie123 05-02-2006, 07:50 PM hey guys i have a question about the A/C controls for my 04 i need to replace my controls because one of the lights went out on the manual temp settings and was tring to find out if the automatic units will go right in with no or little modifications and how much it may cost thanks guys
Antnee77 05-02-2006, 11:04 PM So you have manual climate and the lights died, so you want to drop in a replacement auto climate unit? The simple answer is no, you cannot do it without a ridiculous amount of fabrication.
DURAtotheMAX 05-03-2006, 01:18 AM theres about 12 different duct temp sensors, ambient air temp sensors, OAT sensors, sunload sensors. Not to mention a whole new blower motor assembly. Manual HVAC uses a simple rheostat for blower speed control. Auto uses variable pulse width modulation for speed control; different blower motors. Youd also need some more wiring, and a reflash to the BCM. Some people like it, some people dont, I like mine...but unfortunatly its one of those things that you cant "upgrade" to without a huge amount of work, as Antnee said.

jdugie123 05-03-2006, 05:54 PM thanks guys i was just woundering because the truck i was suppost to get had it on it but the dealer didn't get a sold on the vin before the other dealer sold it that night it really made me mad because i was at the bank signing the papers when the manger called me and told me but i guess i will just get a new manual controls
Antnee77 05-04-2006, 12:13 AM Yeah, those dealers can be a *****. I drove 160 miles to see a truck and I come to find out that the SOB sold it from under me. Damn are they stingy!
Wayne Dohnal 05-04-2006, 03:53 PM Every time this question gets asked I encourage those with the manual controls to be happy with what you've got. Running the auto control in anything but fully automatic mode is a big pain in the rear. GM took something that used to be easy and figured out how to make it difficult.

Right On!!! I wanted the manual one and had to live with the auto one that the dealer found for me... I wish I could go the other way, install the manual control. I hate setting it on one temperature and having it cycle hot-then-cold-then hot to keep the cabin temp where I want...
deniseandspike 05-05-2006, 11:45 AM I dislike the auto controls as well--I would have rather had the electric drivers side seat. I don't like my ac blowing on me and this thing seems to always be blowing at max even when you manually try to turn it down. Give me a simple dial control any day over this automatic thing. Wish I could trade you.

Antnee77 05-07-2006, 08:29 PM No, the 03- units are non-servicable and the whole damn unit needs to be replaced if and when the bulbs blow.

The light behind my fan up/down button burnt out!Censored I gotta make a list of "warrantee" things to have replaced before I get to 36k...
Antnee77 05-07-2006, 10:58 PM It already went out? On an 05? That's pretty early. Surprised mine hasn't blown out yet.
DURAtotheMAX 05-07-2006, 11:06 PM thats not the best part. Tranny temp gauge light burnt out at 6,000 miles

That's what the Dealer told me about my 2002 HVAC Controller.
I say BS!
The Dealer wanted to sell me a new controller for $125. I soldered in all four bulbs for $4.

It is BS. All HVAC control lighting on models prior to 03 can be replaced. The 03- unit is different altogether, though.
thinkenbig 05-08-2006, 05:18 PM I have been having problems with my lights too but if I turn the blower control back and forth the lights will turn on…
any one have this problem or have any ideas, think replacing the bulbs would fix this?
