I just pickup my very first diesel ....2004 chevy 3500





any helpful info/tips so I can keep this thing running without too many major problems

Change oil around 500 miles. Check the rear diff fluid, sounds like it is usually low. Some people change other fluids as well. Break in is also important. If you break a truck in hard it will run hard. Vary speeds at first but don't tow anything at all within the first 500 miles.
