so i just finished puttin all the good stuff on my truck couple days ago so me an a buddy of mine decided to take it out for a 0-60 & 1/4 mile run on the ***. monitor with it on level 3. i let him drive and he forgot to shut the overdrive off. after a couple runs it started acting funny. not shifting right, and my check engine light came on. the ***. said it had backed off 56%. we got it back to his place, let it idle a bit, and shut it down. waited a couple minutes. started it back up. the light was still on but it ran through all the gears just fine, and it seemed okay on the way home. what could have caused this?

If too much power is applied - the Allison will throw a code and go into a protective limp mode. This saves you from destroying your transmission (at least in theory). In reality - if you do this you are likely running power levels that are damaging your transmission. Too many limps will kill your trans. It is likely that you are slowly killing it anyway if you are running anything over about a 75hp tune.
For example - I ran an Edge at level 3 and level 4 for about 40K miles without limping however it started slipping more and more and then would limp. Finally had to rebuild with aftermarket parts.

Is this the 4.61/non-attitude that I got from you?
Just curious, but I'm running it on 2 normal and 1 tow....I hope it will live, just can't drive it without it since using it! ;)

If you stay on level one and two your will be fine. Three and four are playing with fire and level 5 will kill your tranny. Its just a matter of time.
IMO start saving money now for that trans.

I hate the limp. I run a Predator and limped it about 4 or 5 times with the 85 and 120 tunes. Now I can limp it with the 65 tune -:t . I am looking into trannys and I think I am going to rebuild with a Suncoast Level 4 and a Gorend Brothers convertor.

Yeah - part of the time. Also ran one with an attitude for a while. I was addicted to level 4 more than anything. If you keep it at 3 even better 2 your Allison should last. I think your choices of levels are great. You obviousely have more self control than me.
Power is fun.

i run it on level 1 but i had it on 3 when we were beatin on it. my SES light went off this moring but i took it down to scan it anyway it said it was a tranny control failure. this sucks i though only levels 4 & 5 were risky. or is it just cause of my other mods? the good news is with the OD on and some tire spin (pavement had some wet patches) , and letting off for about the last 400 feet it still ran a 15.2 at 80 mph and same situation (tire spin & OD on) it got to 60 in 6.2 sec according to the attitude monitior. so im guessing under ideal conditions i could cut a 14.5. could it have freaked cause the OD was on? dare i try it again with it off?

I think you are seeing the effects of modest power increase and lots of miles. Even the smaller tunes are bound to weaken things at a faster rate than stock power.

modest? i thought with this this setup on level 3 was a increase of over 200ft/lb?

hahaha but could it have been caused just cause the OD was left on?

I don't think so - lots of trucks (01's and 02's) dont have the ODLO and lots of folks run that level of hp in daily driving without locking out 5th. ...
You might want to post in the transmission area. Describe exactly what you did, what power, how you drove it, when the code/limp was thrown, and what code came up. They might have some better advice for you but if I had to guess- I'd say your trans is weakening.
Mine weakened over time and would slip easier and easier on progressively lower levels until I had to drive it stock and could not tow.....then I got my trans rebuilt with an SCIV kit and all is good.
