: Just Installed my westers!!
8100hammer 04-19-2004, 09:56 PM Just installed my westers tune. I got the 91 hot tune. The first thing that I notice was the bottom end was I thought, weaker than the old ecu. Top end was no comparison the new ecu just pulls faster like white lightning. 50- 80 is like going into warp speed. I never seen the speedo on this truck move that fast!! Bottem end just sucks baaaaahhh lag lag lag, then 3200rpms wam to 4800r's shift 3500r's pull like a rap tape to 4800r's once more like that,I'm doing 80mph
Anybody else have similar experiences with the westers first time install?
Does the bottom end get better with time as the ecu adjusts ?
8.1gasser have any tips besides s/c?

8.1GASSER 04-20-2004, 01:53 PM Hammer, I have not gone the Westers route, but from what others have said it should get better as time/miles go by. If not I'm sure that Lyndon can work something out with you as far as getting some low end back in your truck.
As far as any tips, The only set-up that I have dyno tested is DirectHits ignition, Superchips programming, UPD intake, The Other Guys headers, Flowmaster 50 series(2-3" in/1-4" out), custom mafs the best this set-up netted 300hp/440trq at the tire not bad considering I'm running 35's with a 3.73 rear and the 36% loss through the Allison, which at the crank is about 408hp/598trq a good step up from the stock 340/455.
I will say this though, the truck is a monster to drive now, there is no better mod to do than the S/C, and I really feel that Whipple has gotten Trq Management under control, yes there is still some there, but I can roast my 35's from a dead stop and a 10mph roll, I was thinking of a re-gear, but will be keeping my 3.73's now, and the little bit of mpg they give me.

Lawnboy 04-20-2004, 03:04 PM hammer,
Did you have him totally remove torque management?
Thats what your (not) feeling off the line.
Both the 8.1 and the 6.0 gasser have WAY more power than my old '90 454, yet I haven't been able to break mine loose on the '04 yet. The old 454 would smokem whenever you wanted and that was with a measly 230hp and 385TQ.
Also, GM moved the power band up higher RPM wise. This can contribute to less get up down low.
Where my 454 ran out of steam around 3500 rpm, the newer engines are really starting to wake up, and put you back in the seat all the way to the redline.
8100hammer 04-21-2004, 07:19 PM Yep, removed what could be removed far as torque management. Got 80 miles on it now. bottom is slowly becoming snappy again. Drove around in town and it was raining. Could not keep the rear tires from spinning, the engine was not even going past 2300 rpm. I am right now very please with westers. worth the money.
TxDoc 08-08-2004, 10:35 PM Any updates with more mileage on the 8100?

If you are running 35's with 3.73 you are not gaining any mileage from those gears even if you think you are. You are gear way to tall and adding a lot of extra strain to tranny as well. They also somewhat add to your ability to "burn out" because of axle housing twist up on right rear under heavy throttle unloading weight from the tire from torque twist.
8100hammer 08-09-2004, 09:02 PM Few tick better than stock far as mpg goes. But with the new cam in hard to keep foot out of it. Since now it pulls harder now.

Think what you want...it works for me....as far as axle wrap....none herehttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif

Do not kid yourself, you have it big time with tall gears and big tires. This is basic physics 101. (for every action there is a equal reaction) If you had seperate scales on each rear wheel you would see a weight differentail of well over 1000 lbs between them when you "torque" it up. (RR will be a lot lighter than LR when you "torque" it. This is why non posi vehical always spin RR tire first going forward and LR tire going backwards when on a level surface and since the one tire breaks easier, there is more torque to break the other one with posi) And beside, I do not buy a drive a truck to "burn off" my expensive tires, I bought it to work for me.Edited by: snoman
8.1GASSER 08-11-2004, 05:09 PM Really I can't stand you and all the BS you've been spewing on all the GM sites....therefore I could care less of what you post...you have no clue how my truck is set-up, which can only mean that you state your opinion based purely on assumptions...and we all know what assuming does....enough said..

And congrats for buying your truck to work for you....I evidently bought mine to burn the piss out of the tireshttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clap.gifhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clap.gifhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clap.gif

I know, when you cannot understand it, you try to pass the blame BS your way out of it. I did not write the rules of physics but I do understand them.
8.1GASSER 08-11-2004, 09:43 PM You know I had big long reply all set, but didn't post it because you just aren't worth wasting my time on.
Be careful who you call out....you never know who you are dealing with.
