: LB7 Exhaust
DieselBlood 05-01-2006, 07:53 PM I am wondering what I can do for my 01 ec lb first gen for exhaust. I dont want to sink a 700 dollar kit into it, so I really only wanna spedn like 200. Can I do anything with 200? I just want a neat sound, one that will turn heads. What have you guys done? Ide really like to see some other trucks with exhaust mods on em
thanx a bunch.
Max Power 05-01-2006, 07:58 PM Remove your muffler and replace it with a straight pipe. It will turb heads and cost you less the $100. It will be loud!

DSTRBD 05-02-2006, 01:14 PM Straight piping is going to be loud. If you want a low rumblwe that wont be too loud on accelleration, go with an MBRP or Magnaflow kit. They are high quality kits that fit and sound great.
Heartbeat Hauler 05-02-2006, 02:36 PM Well you could remove the muffler and straight pipe it like mentioned above, but if that is too loud then you could simply install a resonator in place of the muffler. This would keep the straight through properties of a straight pipe, and reduce a bit of noise. They are listed for under 200 bucks here---> http://www.pickupspecialties.com/Aero_Turbine/aeroturbine_mufflers.htm
You'll have to scroll down purty far to get to the pics of diesel resonators.

DieselBlood 05-02-2006, 06:47 PM hmmm..I suppose I could just hack the stock muffler anyways. Fired it up and drive it, if I dont like it, get one of the kits or resonators. A typical exhaust should be able to handle something on a d-max right? I know this place that will straight pipe a lot of vehicles, dual, for liek 180$. Do you guys think it would HURT me to run dual or just be better off with a single straight?
Clark20ry 05-02-2006, 07:30 PM Well I am having mine straight piped on Wed. I will be able to post some sound clips for you late Wed or Thursday...

Clark20ry 05-03-2006, 07:27 PM Well I had my muffler deleted today. Dang it sounds great. It has a low rumble at idle and meaner rumble under acceleration. Cruising on the Freeway don't even notice it. Once the radio is on (talk radio) I don't hear a thing. My friend stated when I drove away from the muffler shop my truck sounded much better.....
I will try and record some sound clips later....
500HPHD 05-03-2006, 08:06 PM i got a quick ??? i have a 4in all the way out from my turbo without my cat or muffler, and alot of people have told me that should not have done that because i wouldnt have enought back pressue to spool my turbo, but it runs fine and souds great, what is the whole deal with the back pressue?? some one tell me please..

There all talking about gas motors. The less restriction the better on diesels. You'll be just fine.
epb091786 05-04-2006, 02:45 AM You dont want any back pressure after the turbo because that is going to make it harder for the turbo to spool.
You did the right thing by straight piping it!

StephenDizzle 05-05-2006, 07:03 PM sounds nice but where is the turbo whistle thats all you hear out of my truck is that turbo.. but other than that i like it..
Clark20ry 05-05-2006, 08:00 PM I have a factory air box, I belive that the LB7 turbo is quieter. Airbox upgrade is on the way...
legrizz 05-07-2006, 12:50 PM Turbo whistle is more noticable on a LLY vs. a LB7 because of the different turbos.
