i just installed an afe stage 2 in my 2000 excursion. i am hearing a sucking sound coming from the turbo or the intake tube anyone else have this or did i do something wrong?

i just installed an afe stage 2 in my 2000 excursion. i am hearing a sucking sound coming from the turbo or the intake tube anyone else have this or did i do something wrong?




















Its normal. The turbo is getting more air, so its louder.

<DIV>Your AFE is an open type filter/intake system whereas the stock unit was enclosed in a box. The box acted as a silencer. Some vehicles have multi-staged silencers with an additional one right on top of the engine intake to further muffle the “sucking” sound. If you had opened the box with the engine running you would have heard very much the same thing. The hissing is the sound of the air going in and is normal. Gas engines with the same kind of intakes make the same hissing sound. I personally find it annoying, but it’s harmless. </DIV>

<DIV>Do remember that such high flow intake/filter packages are not magic. They are indiscriminate mechanical devices that allow more air flow than the factory engineered and installed components. They are indiscriminate in that they do indeed flow more air, but at the same time (more likely than not) allow more contaminants into your engine. The have been some independent tests done which would be the body of evidence to support my statements---some more scientific than others, but evidence nonetheless. </DIV>
