: Traction Problems
DMONEY 04-19-2004, 01:55 PM I'm having traction problems, with the power pup stacked on top of the juice the truck spins bad. I know the 285 BFG aren't meant for the dragstrip. can anybody give me any advice? the truck is 4 wheel drive but I'm nervous about launching in 4x4. are slicks the answer? if so what brand is best?
rpbdawg 04-19-2004, 02:00 PM I have the Quad 165 stacked with the HJ. I have the same tires and I launch in 4x4 tow/haul at 1900 rpm. I did add the Rancho 9000x shocks and installed 2 controllers so I could control all 4 shocks. I lower my torsion bars all the way down and have nort had any traction problems. My best 60 ft time is 1.76. The truck is down right now having a transmission installed. I should pick it up tomorrow and get back to running. My dad and his forend struck have the same setup with a little more power but they leave around 1600-1700.
Amric 04-19-2004, 07:21 PM Get some tie-rod sleeves, lower the torsen bars, and let er rip. It is way too hard to hook up that kind of power in 2WD.
Also do some experimenting with tire pressures. It can make a big difference when you get them right.
McRat 04-19-2004, 07:53 PM If you want to play with sticky tires, use ET Streets. They are available in 16", so finding a rim will be easier. I do not envy having to swap tires on a 3/4 ton truck at the track though. PITA.
But if you have 4wd, you should take advantage of it.

I can tell you it gets hot quick doing it, especially here in GA! http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Unhappy.gif I use an electric impact wrench to help ease the pain though. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cool.gif
Slicks make a huge difference and you can get the power to the ground in 2WD with practice.
Super Diesel 04-20-2004, 12:29 AM Yea, what Amric said. Or better yet, get the whole 9 yards (tie rod sleeves and track bar) and never have to lower the front end again. I've done a bunch of 2000 RPM launches in 4WD with the T bars all the way up, and no problem. Just smooth as silk acceleration. I'm running the TTS Exetreme with N2O with water injection for cooling while testing on this product. No traction problems for me. I'm gonna shock some folks this year! Super Diesel
heartbeatcanada 04-20-2004, 12:42 AM Ok i think i will get the hole 9 yards. Gonna be awesome to have that front end tuffened up and not have to worry about it. Can't wait. I'm giving you 2http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Thumbs Up.gif http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Thumbs Up.gif thumbs up for what your doing to make this dmax truck even better. sp33d 04-20-2004, 01:22 AM Michael, I've got to have a ride in the Super truck! I plan on attending the Rocky Mountain event at Bandimere so I'll have to find the ATS booth and see if I can get you to take me for a spin! I'm curious to see the water injection in action. You still planning on being there?
Ok, sorry for hijacking the thread... On to the regularly scheduled programming.
Super Diesel 04-20-2004, 02:47 AM I'll be there. You'll get to see it run. Looking forward to it. Super Diesel
DMONEY 04-20-2004, 09:16 AM Thanks for the advice, I'm going to try the 4 wheel launch in a couple of weeks at baytown and see how it goes. Super Diesel Who makes the Track Bar?
sp33d 04-20-2004, 09:48 AM Super Diesel makes the track bar. Check out the Drag Racing forum for more info on it.
Kennedy 04-20-2004, 10:38 AM Should have some input on a rear traction bar setup that we are testing quite soon...http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Wink.gif
