I have an '03 2500HD D/A ext. cab 4x4. I have about 10,000 miles on it and the last few days I have noticed a slight clunking sound coming from the left front wheel area under the truck. The sound only occurs when I'm on the brake at slow speeds. What could it be??? Something loose? Thanks

You need to jack it up to check the suspension, steering linkage and inner "A" arm bolts. Place your jack under the lower ball joint and jack it up so the wheel is off the ground a couple inches. Put one hand on the back and one on the front. Push in with one and pull back on the other. If there is a worn steering linkage part you will be able to feel it. There is a couple ways to check the ball joints. You can slide a 2 to 3' bar under the tire and lift up. If you can feel play, one or both ball joints are worn. It is usually the bottom one. I recently had a bad clunk in mine. Mine would clunk after backing up while turning. When I jacked it up and did the push pull sequence I found the rear inner "A" arm eccentric bolt hand tight. It had been aligned just a couple weeks before. I asked the alignment Tech how much torque he used to tighten them. He said they were tight. I ran it up on my ramps and pulled the shock. It was completely worn out and would bind up in the middle of the stroke. Realigned that side and installed Ranchos. No more clunk. Later! Frank
