Ok,
I took my old controller and harness out of my 04 sierra and plugged it right back into the same spot on my new 06. When I start the truck 2 little dots appear on each corner of the screen. I plugged into the camper today to see if it was working, and it still had the same 2 dots. When I engaged the emergency stop, the display read n.c. or something like that. Now the manual in the pigtail from GM that came with the truck says I don't need the 40amp fuse because the diesels have the auxillary battery in them. Am I missing something?

should be exactly the same for 04's and 06's.

My prodigy shows the two dots when nothing is connected, and shows a "C" when the trailer is connected to a trailer. Step on the brake, and it displays the voltage its sending to the trailer brakes...problem with your trailer brakes maybe?

I don't think so. Trailer is brand new.

Problem is in my plug somewhere that I just ran to the back of the bed. I had to extend the wires to put them where I wanted them back near the tailgate. I hooked the trailer into the factory plug by the hitch and it worked fine.

my 06 had to have the fuse installed under the hood. It does not come with fuse.

Tim did you have the 230$ trailering package come with the truck? Or did you wire up the rear connector yourself? Is it a standard 7 pin RV connector on the trailer?

Just for kicks, see if you can get the wiring schematics for the trailer plug. I have seen some horse trailers and other trailers that for some reason dont use the same wiring config as the GM connector, so wires were in the wrong positions, even tho the plug physically fits fine.

My 2005 was all ready to go. Bought the Prodigy, got the "quick connect" harness with the Prodigy. Screwed the prodigy on the driver knee panel, plugged in the harness to the Prodigy, adn then into the driver foot well junction block. Worked perfectly. Didnt need any fuses or extra wiring or anything.

Then again it would surprise me if GM didnt put the needed fuse in for 2006 trucks. Always looking to save a buck

Sounds like you extended the factory 5th wheel wiring provisions because they were at the front of the bed. If that is the case you can eliminate the splice by rerouting the factory wires(they Tee into the truck at the rear of the frame and then run forward along frame so just carefully pull the wires back to the rear and up to the plug in the rear of the bed with no splices.)

The fuse has Nothing to do with "Brake Operations", only charging the "Trailer Battery".

Check your trailer wiring, it maybe that Simple.

you will need the fuse installed to charge the trailer battery even if you do have two truck batteries.

I had the same problem. The "nc" on the display means no connection. My problem was fixed by wiggling the 5th wheel harness to make a better connection. It was a loose connection.

Diesels have dual batteries, Gasser have an option for an auxillary battery.

Last time I got a NC on my Prodigy the plug from the trailer to the truck wasn't pluged in all the way. Wiggled the plug and it slipped in the rest of the way in.

Not according to the literature on my '06...What gives? :help:

from what I understand the extra battery for the camper is if you have a box camper. If I remember right the battery would be factory installed under the back seat. I did a lot of research on this when I hooked up my prodigy also. Had to install the fuse because the battery was in my pull type and not the aux camper battery.

Not according to the literature on my '06...What gives? :help:

My '05 came with the fuse and the extra wiring stuffed in the glove box. I don't see why they would have changed it in '06.

I posted pictures in the following thread, post#25, of the dummy fuse and 40 amp fuse installation... http://dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?p=1023030#post1023030

The fuse needs to be in place for charging the trailer's battery, be-it a camper's battery or an auxiliary battery for the "emergency break away brakes".

The two batteries on our trucks (diesel or gas), have nothing to do with this fuse. They are connected in parallel at the starter (positive side).

When you see "NC" on the Prodigy, there is a connection problem.

The 06 comes with it too and wired up in no time and my prodigy wroks great....

Maybe just as simple as retracing your steps....good luck
