I am working on a 1995 with 117,000 miles. It has been not wanting to start after it gets good and warmed up, sometimes it will restart after you poor cold water on the pmd and pump.
I put a remote pmd on today and drove it 20 miles and shut it off and it would not resart again. It was a cold day today of only 40 degrees. The remote pmd assembly was cool to the touch, but I poored cold water on it anyway, just to eliminate things. It still wouldnt start.
So I poored cold water on the injector pump and it started right up. What the Censored is going on here? :help2: please

Are you getting any codes?

...but more than likely you need a new IP. Be carefull, cold water on the hot ip head may seize.

Cool water trick has more to do with the IP itself, not the PMD. It also more applies to the older mechanical pumps rather than the newer DS4 electronic pumps too. The cool water over the top of the IP was to help with worn head/rotor clearances/tolerances within the pump. From what I've read at least, that type of failure is not common on the eletronic pumps, but can happen.

The pump guys can weigh in and give you better insight.

Be careful with 'COLD' water. Just a small amount of room temperature water is about all the more you want to be dabbling with around a hot engine.

a 95 with 117k miles may just be eligible for gm to warranty the pump. 11 years from in service date or 120k miles.

Thanks for yer help.
We called the local dealer and they checked and said it was still under warranty. Luckily it was built in september and not april. lol the mileage was also getting close. Next week we will be getting a brand new injection pump installed.
Again Thanks for all the help.

Read The Doc's tips before warranty or you'll be sorry.

Pay particular attention to what DP just said! The answers you seek are in the FAQ's.

I just made it a little easier bumped it back to the top, plus it's still available anytime in FAQ stickys

BTW you have to actually go to the sticky sections locked at the top of the forums or several members also have the link in their signatures which redirect you there, the little blue higlighted FAQ you see within a given post is only to open the acroynm dictionary assistant and does not link you to the FAQ section

Can the link be put into the popup box or onto the page that opens when you click on FAQ?

Not by this barely computer literate operator, I'm not savvy enough on computers, to do it, but I do know it is a lot of work, plus you would have to figure out a way to discriminate between a DMAX or a 6.5. which would have a lot of acronyms common to 6.5.

Not to sound mean spirited, but it's a little disheartening at times; when folks have taken time to post, coalate, compile some pretty good information, put it in a central location for folks to find, and people don't use what is there it just requires a little reading. Also it's got to be just as frustrating to others that spend time to post their experiences that can be found with a little work using search tools and some fall short doing that.

Lots of bells and whistles can be added, but remember the "Staff" here does this for free, members get to read it for free, if we add a lot of links & such it requires a lot of debugging if the link isn't quite right (staff hears about it btw despite appearances at times we do have other lives to lead than Diesel Place), I'm not sure but more we add and have a a data base to store & link to also eats up more bandwidth slowing down the site. Requiring site to go buy more "space on the web". So I guess if willing to pay for it a full time IT guy could be added just to maintain the different option requests, but I doubt then membership could remain free.

The site stores tons pics, and threads now, provides message storage, things like P&R & offtopic forum that IMO add nothing to a Diesel enthusiasts forum, (some argue it's beneficial diversion from the mundane pure technical dry stuff; okay maybe).

Point I'm making is probably it could be done, but why the info is here already, it just requires a little work to search which yes can be unweildy at times but not as bad as one would think. If a new member shows up and doesn't know where to find the info, rather than just blurt ot an answer it's PMD, OPS etc, it up to you seasoned veterans here to show them where the basic info is, ie FAQ, or if you know where answer might be, copy paste the link for them.

Once shown it's incumbent for the new guys to read and digest what is there. FAQs aren't the holy grail of info-the only way to do things, but IMO a good place to start discussions with that would ammend incorrect FAQ info, or become a FAQ as well.
