Backed the truck out of the garage this morning and noticed an oily spot on the floor about 4 inches in diameter. The spot is just to the drivers side from the center and about 2 1/2 feet back from where the front of the truck is when in the garage. Started looking around on the truck, and finaly popped the hood. It looks like power steering fluid has been leaking from around the cap on the pump. I can't get the cap any tighter than it already is. Has anyone else had this problem?

Darin,

I had the same thing happen last summer with my 2003 D-Max. It looked like power steering fluid was slobbering out from around the cap and down the reservoir. Had a few drips on misc. parts underneath. This happened at about 13000 miles and I first noticed it after a pull to Yellowstone.

Finally, my brother-in-law(another D-Max owner) and I double checked the fluid level. It was wayyyyy overfilled. I don't know why I didn't catch that before but it was that way from the factory. We pulled out about 1/4 cup of fluid and got the level down to the right spot and problem went away.

Thanks Larry. I will have to check that out. Hadn't thought about it being overfilled since they seem to short you on all the other fluids.

Well, I just checked the level after driving around town. The level is centered between the add mark and the full hot mark. So, it doesn't look like it is overfilled at all. I just cleaned everything up around there, so will see if it continues to leak.
