: GMC vs Chevy
sf jakey 04-25-2006, 10:32 PM 2 questions, I'll place them here because I don't see a general area that would be more appropriate, sorry if its in the wrong spot.
1. What is the difference between GMC and Chevy besides the front end? Are there options GMC offers that Chevy doesn't or vice versa?
2. Does the GMC moonroof come with the same cheap window shade cover the Chevy does, or can you get a regular cover like the Yukon has?
Thanks again for helping me out, I should be buying soon.

Im going to move this to "Exterior"...
1. theyre identical. Both come down the same assembly line. Only difference is the front clip and grille, the driver side airbag cover (one says GMC, the other has a bowtie:) ), and the tail lights.
2. Same answer as above, everything from the front fenders back is 100% identical.
technically Chevy trucks are actually just GMC's with the RPO "X88". X88 denotes the "Chevrolet conversion package"

Since all you are pu$$ys, I'll start this time.
Everyone knows GMC's look better than the Chevys. GMC's are a real truck. As I have said before and I'm sure this wont be the last time:
Any poor old dirt farmer can drive a Chevrolet.
It takes a gentleman of honor and distinction to drive a GMC....

Ummm Execuse me but Chevy's are the one's with the bowtie on the grill indicating a gentleman of honor and distinction.
Wht's GMC got on the grill ? Oh ya the intials GMC so the driver can get out and look at the grill to remember what kind of chariot he's driving :p:

I actually like the look of the GMC better than the chevy and I decided on buying the chevy instead. The problem I had with the 05 GMC was the bumper. I have seen quite a few trucks esp in my area with the paint all messed up because of rocks, etc. The chevy just has the gray plastic. Also all these new bumpers rust quick, but on the GMC you can see where the water, salt sits in the middle and starts surface rust that is visable.
When I bought my truck the dealer was both a chevy and gmc dealer and he had identical trucks. Just based my decision off what I thought would look better in the long run.

The local GMC dealers did'nt want to deal and got a $7,000 better deal from the Chevy dealer. I prefer the GMC front end but to me it's not worth $7,000! Goes to show how much profit dealers make.

Saltherring 04-26-2006, 12:43 PM As I told more than one Chevy dealer: The next one's a GMC because Chevy ruined their best body style since '72 with those slant-eyed headlights. More than one Chevy dealer has agreed with me on that. '03 and newer Chevys are U-u-u-g-g-ly! I backed up my words as I sold my '01 Chevy and am picking up the '06 GMC on Friday.
gmperfomance03 04-26-2006, 12:47 PM As a good friend of mine who works at a GMC dealership told me...the bosses buy GMC's while his subordinates buy Chevy's
GMC is professional grade, just look at the body styling, alot more class and character than the Chevy's.

I like the GMC front clip better, too, but the dealer wouldn't work with me. Chevy dealer gave me a $36,500 out-the-door price on the truck in my sig. Couldn't leave it on the lot at that o\price. At least they went with the Powerdome hood on the Chevies. Sure improved the look IMO.

 Maybe it's time to rethink the sack? :) Just kidding!
RayMich 05-03-2006, 11:22 AM SteelMastiff, this is really cool! what software are you using?
I like the black grille and bumper, but take back those "bewitched" eyes and give me back the original "Professional Grade" look. :ro)
Get rid of the front license plate bracket while you're at it - Not needed where I come from. Much cleaner look. :)
Here you go!!!

Unit453 05-03-2006, 05:54 PM I like the slant eyes.

That does not surprize me at all.

deniseandspike 05-05-2006, 08:13 PM I had to choose between the Chevy and GMC--didn't like the slant eyes on the Chevy but liked the Chevy grill better--I ended up with the GMC because they gave me more money on the trade-in. Money talks . . .

towdog333 05-05-2006, 08:20 PM Hey BigBud is that hood metal or fiberglass, really like the hood, looks mean:D
bigbud450 05-05-2006, 08:42 PM It's fiberglass and it is functional. Absolutely gets heads to turn. Have other
pics on picture trail web site. http://www.picturetrail.com/gallery/view?p=999&gid=4598413&uid=2339453&members=1
Unit453 05-06-2006, 12:39 AM Those scoops functional?
bigbud450 05-06-2006, 12:21 PM yes, the scoops gather the incoming air, directs it to the air filter via internal hood duct. My air box seals against the hood keeping air pressure against the filter. You can view the setup here:
http://www.picturetrail.com/gallery/view?p=999&gid=4598413&uid=2339453&members=1
Unit453 05-07-2006, 03:00 PM Those pics are cool. I dig the hood. Its nice to see a functional hood scoop on something.
bigbud450 05-07-2006, 11:12 PM I'm really surprised GMC doesn't offer this hood as an option. I know a number who would have ordered a similiar setup. Really adds an agressive look to a great engine/trans combo.
RayMich 05-10-2006, 12:19 AM Hey bigbud, NICE hood! :D
Did you notice any performance improvements with this hood?
Does it weigh LESS than the factory hood?
Have you had any problems with water intrusion?
Where did you buy it? How much?
-Thanks.
Unit453 05-10-2006, 12:42 AM Yeah, good point. I'm curious.
bigbud450 05-10-2006, 09:00 AM http://pic15.picturetrail.com/VOL575/2339453/4598413/145660082.jpg
I had the hood on since truck was new, BM, (before mods). I'm sure there is some improvement as no engine compartment air is pulled into air box. And the front air pressure produced while moving forward should reduce the vacume created by the turbo needs.
The hood is no more heavier than factory hood; hood snaps up similiar to factory hood when opened.
As far as water intrusion, I have had no problems. The hood as drain holes where the internal hood duct make a right turn to the air box. You can see them on my pic site:
http://www.picturetrail.com/gallery/view?p=999&gid=4598413&uid=2339453&members=1
Here's a pic of the under side of hood:
http://pic15.picturetrail.com/VOL575/2339453/4598413/121035860.jpg
I like the look of the "power bulge" hood from the cab while driving.
The hood came on a previous truck (03 GMC) and I swapped hoods when new truck arrived. I believe they are $700+ and I've seen them in the JC Whitney flier and others carry them also. The company's name is Keystone and the hood's name is Good Hood. They have other styles and give a list of dealers who market them.
Unit453 05-11-2006, 12:52 AM I like it. In fact, I'm gonna head out that way and take it from ya.

What's happening to our culture?
First removable starter keys was added,
then door locks appear,
soon lockable steering wheels,
lockable fuel caps,
hood latch release inside cabs,
lockable hub caps,
radios with removable faceplates,
auto theft alarms,
lock out ignition systems,
traceable GPS transmitters,
and now I have to lock down my hood!!!
You can have my gun, dog, and touch my hat
BUT it's off limits WITH MY WIFE AND TRUCK!!!!

MrMinimax 05-12-2006, 12:28 AM I'm little late to the party but I will go ahead through another rock in the pool as it seams to have calmed down.

You should already have an inside hood lock. ;)
A couple more questions:
Any problems with intake air being too cold in the winter?
Is there a way to manually shut off the cold air?
Any problems with snow getting sucked in?Thanks.

Reasons:
1. Two large dogs who love New York cuts, with or without bone.
2. Hood intake plugged; thought it was a powerstroke, but it's snott.
3. Gone, driving to Hawaii, (not looking forward to the water induction though.)
4. Have to start a another thread for overheaded duramax owner!
5. Encouraging another senseless DVD.... "HOODS GONE WILD!!!"
6. Missing hood picture on boxes of Raisin Brand cereal; two scoops.
7. More humor like this.

I haven't noticed any. Driven when it's been -15+.
Is there a way to manually shut off the cold air?
Yes, I can open the side of my air box and draw air from the wheel well.
Any problems with snow getting sucked in?
Thanks.
Again, haven't had any problems. Most of our snow is dry, little moisture. If it is heavy it probably would act more like rain and the inside drains would take care of it.

These trucks would look much better if they had centered the emblem in the grill. And taken out the afterthought between the grille and the bumper.

I just figured it'd be much cheaper for me to haul azz out there and take it.......
WilliamBos 05-14-2006, 02:19 PM I was thinkin the same thing....
Now with that said.....
lets begin...

I love to start wars with the Chevy guys.
Its all in fun.
davedan 05-16-2006, 01:01 AM The Chevys look like Japaneese animation of some sort. TOTAL CRAP. Every other vehicle Ive ever owned has been a chevy, I have currently three other chevys, BUT, when it came time to nab another Dmax in pickup form, I had to have the GMC.

Unit453 05-16-2006, 02:41 PM What does Dodge do then? Sit at the door knocking? Waiting for the Ford guys to let'em in?
