go with the diesel specific.

the gasser one may work for a while, but do you want to be 200 miles from home and find out that it was a bad idea

You can replace the pulley with a new one. I got one from Dayco, like EUR 23.

The belt tensioner pulley part number in Gates is 38001. That’s a very common replacement part and may be used to replace a failed pulley in many gas engine applications and/or on our 1995 trucks. BUT the correct tensioner assembly with pulley is a part number 38267 and that is application specific to the 6.5 - a gas version is not a good substitution. I put a new 38001 Gates brand pulley on mine - fall of 04 when I replaced the water pump. Kind Regards, Rick

The tensioners are the same but the Pully is wider on the diesels.
