Have just returned from an 8000 mile trip to AZ and back, towing our 5th wheel. Have just noticed that three of the four rubber isolator pads are now somewhere between Ontario and Arizona. I am not asking members of the Forum to look out for them on their travels, but would be interested in any theories as to why they became detached.

Must have something to do with Arizona. I also just returned from Yuma and have three of the four missing.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Disapprove.gif Probably a poor design or crappy material

The plastic tab breaks. I have replaced five, so far. They cost about $14 for the pair (Can) Its a GM problem. Shop foreman said GM won't do anything about it. Keep replacing them, under warranty. Once that runs out.... you buy. They will keep breaking, and falling out. There may not be any problems if they are not replaced (damage). Just a metal on metal clanging sound.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif

I replaced mine with 2 layers of innertube rubber held in place with a screw, washer and a nut. The trick is to make the head of the screw and a washer compress down into the hole in the spring. That way, when the spring above comes down, the head has someplace to go and doesen't get smashed. I use about a #6 machine screw and washer on top (between the springs) and a penny drilled for a #6 and nut on the bottom. You could use Ny-locks or thread locker also.

Go to Eric's (DMaxAllitech) site, guys.... he's got rubber "o-rings" that look like they may work better. http://www.gmdieseltech.com/store2/

look under accessories

Hey, The Bac. Interesting..... Thanx for the reply. Does anyone know how the o-rings will last under load? (while trailering?) For every day driving, I can see that they would be o.k. Anyone have these in use?

By far the best solution I have found.. Never lost one either.

Hey, Duramax Diesel. How do the insolators work, for towing applications? (springs rubbing together, while under load)

How much weight can the 2500hd carry before the overloads are in contact with the mainspring?http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif

its not the weight per say, but the bouncing. put some grease on your plastic disks while its sitting. Now go drive it and I bet you will have a patch of grease on the spring above it.

I understand that bouncing will cause occasional contact on bumpy roads or heavy acceleration or deceleration.

My question is how much weight puts the springs on the overloads and keeps them there until the truck is unloadedhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif

Here's (http://tommy3z71.homestead.com/spring_insulators.html) another kind of spring insulator (I have these on my truck).

Jim, those work very well, but the price he has listed on his site is no longer accurate, the price on these and went WAY up.. Dunno why.

I have one set of these, but they are worth gold so I dont wanna waste them.. LOL

I had the dealer put them on under warranty, so they were real cheap (read: free) for me! http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif
