I keep hearing from folks, reliable ones I think, that say they get 18 mpg out of the 6.0 gas motor with a "chip." Is this true?

Also, can I chip my stock Dmax and expect better fuel economy?

Thanks.

I have a friend that has a 1999 6.0 gas. He borrowed my truck and trailer the other day to haul a load from Oklahoma to Missouri. He says my truck gets better fuel mileage pulling a trailer then his does empty. I had a 5.3 1/2 ton before my Dmax years and it would not get what my Dmax does.:)

I had a 6.0L Gasser with a 4:10 rear with a hypertech and it did absolutely nothing to improve mpg. It got 9 to 11 mpg which is why I unloaded it for the Duramax

Exactly what I experienced !! And I'll add 7 mpg  towing 7,000 lbs with the gasser.

Won't happen w/ the 6.0, except maybe downhiil w/ the wind at your back. With my DMAX, though, I get 18-19 mpg on a daily basis, unloaded. Gets over 50% better mileage than my 01 Dodge 1/2 ton gasser, 5.9.

Theres no way you'll get that kind of mileage. I have 6.0 and currently get 11-13 depends how hard I drive. I seen a little gain with the westers 93 HOT tune. But you wont get much more than 15 I've heard at best
