Hello,

I was curious to the pros/cons in regards to running a dowloaded ECM program( I.E. TTS, QUAD, ) vs. a can-bus interuption/enhancer module.( I.E. EDGE/SIXGUN/TST )

And are the ECM exchanges in a totally different categorie as compared to a in vehicle hanheld down load?

These areas come to mind.

1. Fuel milage

2. Glitches

3. Transmission shift quality

4. Defuling

5. Slip protection

I am sure there are many other pros/cons.Edited by: Bronco

I bought a BullyDog Power Pup downloader a few weeks ago. I like it because it is half the price of a box and I can recalibrate my speedo. According to Bullydog it is basiclly the same Tune MODS as the box but instead of tricking the computer it is just running a different program.

1.Fuel Milage: My milage has increased to a steady 3.8 - 4.0 mpg more. NICE

2.Glitches: Dunno of any yet.

3.Transomission Shift: It has not changed the way my tranny shifts.

4. & 5. : No it does not defuel like a box for slippage but in theory the tranny should act the same as if it were stock since it does not change the tranny. I guess if you put it on the highest HP Tune you could cause the tranny to go into "Limp Mode". Bullydog stated that I could put it on the 75 HP Tune & pull my 30' foot camper with no problem as long as you drive it normal and you are not dogging it everywhere or racing. They did state that if you went to the 95 HP you would need to change the exhaust & so forth due to EGT'S.

I am running the 75 HP Tune & corrected my speedometer with the downloader, I did not remove the gov. or speed limiter which is an option you can choose.

1. Fuel milage

Will vary according to your driving style

2. Glitches

Depends on whos program and year of truck .... Must have it figured out

3. Transmission shift quality

No matter what you have to allow tranny relearn time

4. Defuling

It's a natural built in quality of the Allison when it doesen't recognize all the torque

5. Slip protection

There's no garranty but Edge seems to stay within Factory defuling ...Keep it under a 100 HP increase would be best ...

WOW! now that is an increasehttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clown.gif And the air intake is good for 3-5 mpg the exhaust for another 2-4 mpg, And don`t forget the added fuel filter.

It won`t be long til you have to sell excess diesel.

By the way, I have some of that good ol` Ocean front property in Kansashttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clown.gifhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clown.gif

hdmax,

You can believe me or not, I don't really care. I was just trying to give bronco information from my experience. I know there are a lot of people who will say anything in these posts but I'm not one of them, what's the point. You would not be helping yourself or others and as far as I'm concerned that is what this forum is for, not to brag or lie but help others & yourself so that everyone learns. And yes those are true mpg numbers that I have obtained & yes I make sure to fill up the same and make it as consistant as possible and take an average of that not just one time. Also just for info I was expecting a gain of at least 3 which is one of the main reasons I bought it, I have an uncle & cousin who both have 02 2500hd 4x4 Dmax and they get 3 more mpg with the Bullydog Dominator box. I also agree 100% with Mackin's post.

So be careful on who you try to make fun of because it might be the guy who has an answer to one of your questions!! Unless it is a proven post spammer who is always full of S___.

I agree with most everything Mackin said, except #3 (Transmission Shift Quality). Mack's right if your talking about the Quad or Predator - I'd have to run through the gears 10-15 times after changing power levels to get the shifts to smooth out, then repeat for tow haul mode. The greater the change in HP, the worse the shifting was until the tranny re-learned.

One exception to the rule is the TTS 120 I'm using now; it has no learning issues when switching on-the-fly between 25, 80, and 120HP settings. My shifts are smooth as silk the moment I flip the toggle switch - in fact I haven't banged a shift since I've had the unit installed.
