I have a 2004 Silverado crew cab long bed with front bucket seats. I want to temerarily replace the buckets with a bench seat for a trip I have planned because I need seating for 6. I need my 7 year old daughter ro ride in the front and need to disable the air bags for her. How can I disable the front air bags? Is there a fuse I can pull? Any help would be appriciated.

look under the dash. all airbag connections are in yellow. undoo the yellow connector to the airbag and you are done. You will throw a SAS (service airbag soon)light...

Please do not do this... Unplugging or screwing with anything on the SIR system or SDM will not only cause the airbag light to come on and a "service airbag soon" DIC message, but it will cause the SDM to go into as sort of "limp mode" and disable the whole airbag system completely. If thats what you want, go for it...but I personally would NEVER mess with anything on the airbag system on my truck. IMO the best thing to do is leave the airbag system alone and just move the passenger side seat as far back as possible.

Now that I thought of it....I think GM makes an accessory kit that includes a PROPER switch to disable the passenger side airbag correctly in crew cabs.

DURAtotheMAX,

How can I get one of those kits with the PROPER switch? Do you get them from a local dealer?

hmmm Im not really sure...Im not even 100% sure if the kit exists...I just thought I remember seeing it somewhere. Go to the dealer parts department and ask about it...although if they say its not availible that doesnt mean anything knowing dealers these days

I will do some research and try to find it...

The dealer can and does disable airbags on request. You tell them you need to put 4 children in carseats in the truck. I think it's free.

Thanks McRat,

I will check with the dealer. Do you know if that is done with a Tech II or do they do something to the wiring?

Thanks,

Matt

I think they will do it with the Tech II.
