I love the power of the LBZ and tranny and got to put it to a test this week pulling out some large bushes around my house. Put it 4 low and it pulling power is awesome, but found that it was hard to keep it from moving without pushing hard on the brake pedal. Was wondering if anyone else has noticed this or if mine just isn't braking enough? I've had several 4x4s over the years but never had to try so hard to keep it from moving in 4 low. I've also have been concerned about it not braking enough in a hard brake on the road too. Came close recently to not getting it stopped behind some one when everyone hit the brakes--it got me worried. Seemed like it should have stopped sooner. (not pulling anything) I'm not worried about the 4 low braking cause won't use that much, but just wondering if anyone else has found this out? --Bob

I have an '05 cc/sb with 285/70/17's off roads and couldnt be happier with the braking . The braking is far superior to my 97 explorer which handles like a race car with goodyear 275/45/20's.

LBZBob,

You're not crazy! I had the same experience and took it back to the dealer. The shop foreman said if felt average to him as to pedal pressure. It seems to take more pedal pressure than my '02 dually did to stop in slow traffic. Some of that is the large wheels. It seems to be getting better as the brakes seat in. 2200 miles now. I would prefer a more sensitive pedal, but maybe it will just take getting used to!

My brakes work well. I have not used the truck in 4 wheel low so I can not comment on that scenario. I have had to stop very quickly in traffic and had exactly the opposite experience. I was impressed with the stopping power.

trying to use the brakes in 4 low will take more pressure because the lower gear in the transfer case multiplies the torque aka more pulling power the truck wont want to go fast, such as highway speeds but it will definatley want to tear down a house. all vehicles I Have had with the 4 low capability have been like this. as far as street driving I have no complaints with mine as far as braking, I think the brakes are better than on my 91 suburban. but the brakes have a better feel to them in my 01 yukon, but I believe that the yukon has the vaccum assisted brakes as oposed to the hydrolic assist in the HD.

4 LO does require more pressure on mine, but in 2/4 HI it brakes very well. I'd have them looked at by the dealer.

Brakes on mine are fine, had to do an emergency stop on the freeway the other day and was surprised at just how fast you can stop a 7,000 lb truck. The dealer had to put ceramic pads on mine to try and stop the squealing. That has been partially successful, going back in next week to put on rotors possibly. Multiplied torque is the answer to the creeping in lo range.

My brakes work fine, I had a small car pull in front of me while I was exiting the freeway and I had to step on the brakes before I ran in to it. Good Brakes!

How many miles do you have on your truck? I know in the owners manual it says to not do any abrupt stopping with your truck for the first couple thousand miles or something like that. It's to allow the pad and rotor to wear in I think? Maybe your brake feel will get better after you use them more.

Brakes in mine are way more awesome than what was in my 2000 1/2 ton Silverado! It shuts down in a hurry the couple of times I've had to really get on the binders. As others have said above, you have a lot of torque multiplication in 4LO. It's pretty hard to make it sit still in gear even with your foot on the brake. One more reason I love my handshaker.

Thanks guys! I have about 6500 miles on it so it should be broke in pretty good. I guess I'll just have to give them another hard try on the road.;) Was more curious about the force of braking needed in 4 low. Like I said, I've had 4x's for a long time and used 4L once in a while, but never had to push so hard on the brake to keep it from moving. So, love the power this thing has!! :ro) --Bob
