When i put on H2's/ 315 BFG, My power steering really suffers. By this I mean, it doesn't work unless I am moving. This is a real pain as I hook to a trailer at least 10X a week. I was told an H2 pump would bolt up and has different valving, but the person couldn't guarantee that would fix it. Any info would be appreciated as I hate leaving my 265's (Plow tires) on.

just air up the tires to 55 PSI. I have 33" tires and as long as theyre aired up I have no problem steering when not moving. Every once in a while they fall down to 35-40 PSI and I notice the steering gets kinda hard. AFAIK the H2 uses the same pump and hydroboost system that the HD trucks use...

Thanks for the warnings and advice. Unfortunately the dealer has replaced the rack 2x for slop in it right from the factory, and it actually doesn't get noticably worse with the 315's on. As to the idea of Airing them up I usually keep all my tires all the way up as I tow very heavy. I still don't understand how an H2 steers so well and our trucks have trouble wtih 285's and a plow? I guess the HD doesn't cover steering. Let me know if you do the ram assist.

i thought i read somewhere in here that someone had the same concern
took it to the dealer rep checked it out and they were able to turn the
pump pressure up seening that its a hydro boost and said it totaly fixed
his problem. not very familure with hydro-boost and the possibility of
turning pump pressure up? just waht another member wrote not sure

I thought the same thing and checked with the mechanic. He said it is all iternal valving and can't be field adjusted. I haven't really pursued it with any one else at GM though.

just to chime in, I had the same issue with H2's when towing. That's one of the reasons I got rid of them (that and I didn't have a spare, which scared me a little).

Did you only have the problem when towing? Mine is all the time and may get better when towing due to the tongue weight lifting the front.

any low speed maneuvers on pavement were a struggle. Just accentuated when I was, for example, backing up with a gooseneck.

I am putting a RedNeck Ram kit on mine. I am also upgrading the links and such to take the extra power. Kit comes a ram and new power steering pump that has additional flow (same pressure) as well as a modified steering box. I'll post how it works out when I get her done.
I am running 365/65-16s that can be searly impossible to move on the hard stuff.

The company that does the right hand drive conversions in NZ have figured a mod for the pump to increase the pressure about 150psi, but they check the initial (or stock) pressure before doing this so it doesn't get too over board, to help people with bigger wheels/tyres. We of course are using a RHD box with about 3.8 turns lock to lock. Mine's not too bad to steer but I will have this done when I get around to it and will report when I know more about it.

Thanks for the input let me know how either upgrade works as my forearms don't fit through my shirt sleeves anymore. (Dry Sarcasm)
