: Over Drive Lock Out (ODLO) questions

#1. I'm having the OD lockout switch installed next week on my
2002 truck. On John Kennedy’s website he has Mdrag's installation
instuctions (http://www.kennedydiesel.com/docs/Allison%20OD%20lockout%20final.htm)
which are different and more detailed than the GM
instructions (http://dieselplace.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=753&KW=allison)

BUT.........in Mdrag's intructions he writes..........*
<font color="red">"Caution should be used whenever turning ON or OFF the Over Drive
Lock Out (ODLO) feature to prevent unexpected transmission shifting
that could lead to loss of vehicle control resulting in an accident, property
damage, serious injury or death." </font>

I wonder if Mdrag got these instuctions from Helms?

Since <font color="red">DEATH</font> is not mentioned in the GM's instructions and this
warning seems rather severe, my question is for those who have
the switch installed. How might one actually prevent "unexpected
tranny shifting" when turning the OD switch ON or OFF?
-or- Is this warning just a CYA and not to be worried about?

#2. Do the new trucks have his switch mounted on the dash?

The switch is incorporated in the T/H switch making it dual purpose ...

I really don't think on a stock truck accidently engaging will hurt anything ... It will only run up against the gov-ner ...

If you seen some off us on the dyno a pickle and poop comes to mind ...

Thanks motovet.... you wrote:

Does anyone have a picture of the switch/LED mounted on their
2001-2002 dash?

That's it, picture was'nt the best. The pieces snap together to fit in place of the little cuby hole.

DRBEAR,

What is that big button to the right of the lock out?

I have the air bag shut off switch. I thought that was
a Federal requirement to have it?

Maybe your spoofin us..... could it be for your Simpson Parachute?

I installed the ODLO button and indicator light on the console on the left side of the Cassette Deck. I didn't like the idea of reaching accross the dash. Much more convenient, just drop your right hand and it's right there.

That's the switch to deploy my tailhook http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif. Seriously, it is the switch to operate my transfer pump on my auxillary fuel tank.

56NOMAD: Apparently, the General doesn't feel that Crew Cab owners should have the option of putting children in the front seat for any reason, thus no shut off switch. I had to purchase the appropriate mounting brackets and covers to use the space for my switches as there was only a cubby hole there to start with. That is a factory GM auxillary light switch that I converted to my fuel pump relay switch. Took a little engineering, but turned out ok.

Got my truck all cleaned and polished up and dropped it off
at the service department this morning. Since they're
going to be doing "brain surgery"... I even cleaned and
detailed out the engine compartment.

I gave the mechanic the printed copy of the excellent
install directions provided by Mdrag with all the pretty
color photos. These are at:
http://www.kennedydiesel.com/docs/Allison%20OD%20lockout%20final.htm

The mechanic said he'll be doing both the TCM and ECM updates.

Service manager just called to say that they are missing one
of the parts they need so they'll have my truck for an extra day
since it 's being overnighted from Reno. Edited by: 56Nomad

Hey, 56NOMAD, does the LED light work or not? Mine has never worked even though the switch works perfectly.

Thanks.

DRBEAR,

If the LED does not work you might check the wiring to the LED. The 12 volt + wire must be attached to the positive leg of the LED. A LED works the same as a Diode, in that it only allows voltage to flow one direction. Usually the longer leg of the LED is positive.
