Can you run kreo in our trucks? a friend said he he bought some heater kero from a local store and said it made his truck run good. Is this true?? and will it hurt the Duramax Diesel.
Thanks cody.

It should run fine IIRC. It does not have the lubrication that #2 diesel does, so be sure to add some Stanadyne or other additive to keep the CP3 lubricated. I wouldnt run it all the time tho. The long term effects might not be so great on the CP3, plus its illegal to run kerosene in on-road vehicles, with something like a 10,000 dollar fine if you get caught :(

Kero is used as a winterizer. If I remember correctly about 8% kero is added to #2. Kero has a lower BTU output than #2 hence the bad fuel mileage in the winter. As DuratotheMax said, Do Not run straight kero. As far as Legal issues, can you say "Taxes" no road tax on kero.
My experience comes from driving gas trucks for several years. We would load several hundred gallons of kero then top off the compartment with #2 then deliver to the station. When the temp. would drop down to the teens and below we would also add about 10 gal. of additive to lower the gel point.

I haven't done this for about 6 yrs now so things could have changed but if your interested I could ask some friends what the % is and if this is still done at all.

Mike.

GM recommended up to 25% kero in diesel for extreme cold in the 6.5TD diesels. I put some kero into my tank (2 gals kero and 16 diesel) on my '99 6.5TD Tahoe in Illinois one winter when it was 15 to 20 below for a week. It didn't gell up, but it ran crappy and my mileage dropped over 2 mpg. I also had to add more stanadyne to make up for the lack of lubricity. Bottom line - it is thinner, does not lubricate, has lower btus and will not perform as well. If your buddy thinks it "runs great" and he's getting a boost from kero he's got something else going on. Unless you get a drum or two for free or are working in arctic conditions, I would pass on it.

I know Kero doesn't have road tax on it , might as well cause it cost the same or more than diesel:D
