For anyone who's interested, I was at my local Advaance Auto Parts earlier today, noticed a few gallons of Rotella Synthetic 5W-40 in a clearance bin. Marked 50% off. Funny thing is I'd never seen it on the shelf there, didn't know they carried it. I bought all they had in the store at that price, about $6.40 a gallon. Got a total of 11 gallons. I don't know if this is just that location, or a nationwide deal. I'd been using it for the last 3 or 4 oil changes, no problems or complaints. I know its not as good as Delvac 1, but for roughly the same price as dino it can't be beat.

why wouldn't you think it's as good as delvac??? It's synthetic and has has been around awhile. I think the brand you use comes down to personal preferance. I know Wally World sells it (ROTELLA SYN) for $12.36 a gallon or $3.09 a qt. They have just stocked MOBIL TRUCK/SUV (DELVAC 1) for $19.08 a gallon or $4.77 a qt. just my $.02 cents & HO.

Delvac-1 is made from Group-IV - PAO - base stock which is a "true" synthetic (more $)

Rotella 5w-40 "Synthetic" is made from Group-III base stock which is hydrocracked "dino" oil.

so the mobil Truck/SUV (delvac 1) is the oil to use if you want "true" synthetic oil in your DMAX?!

AMSOIL 15W-40 is also a "true" PAO synthetic...http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Approve.gif
