why do you have the Mobile 1 & Mobile listed? Both of these oils are for gas motors. Delvac is Mobile for Diesel engines.

What is the difference between Rotella and Delvac? Would it not be better to run synthetic in the Diesel? Just curious, use to run that in everything else.

how much is delvac syn a gallon????????

Any oil that meets specs.

The syn oils are great but unless you are running a extended drain program or seeing extreme temps the additional $ is not justified. Your money would be better spent on bypass filtration. Edited by: a bear

a bear, I agree.

Edit: I should ad that I change my oil every 3000 miles, so thats why I stick with dino oil. If I went the recomended oil change intervals by the manufacturer, then MAYBE i'd use synthetic. I've had plenty of vehicles(3 to be exact) with over 100,000 miles on them and NOT a drop of synthetic was ever put in them. So i'll stick with what I know works. And obviously all you synthetic users will do the same.

Has anyone on this board actually had an engine failure due to the oil they chose to use? If so, do you have documented proof? Just curious is all.Edited by: 338_

a bear,

You bring up a good point about synthetic. Question is, can dino oil go 10k in the Dmax?? This seems to be what my OLM is telling me to change the oil at. I may end up just having to have the oil analized to see if it can hold up to OLM changes.

By the way I am using Delo 400 15w-40 as well.

Although I voted for Amsoil based solely on my experience and the lit I have read, which is really the best???? This poll is only a feel good poll. Is there actual evidence on the best??http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif

My input is really the oil I feel most comfortable with, and all my engines have survived my use very well.

I had a '90 I used mobil 1 ini after breakin. traded it off at 140K with no eng problems. I ck'd the lifter area with borescope and it was CLEAN. changed oil every 12K and filters every 3K. thats my plan with the "D" unless it is otherwise warrented. MOBIL TRUCK/SUV for me!

I'm new here but I have recently switched to AMS oil 15-40 Synthetic. I used to run a Petro-Canada Syn oil but was told that the oil was refined by cracking so it was not a true "Synthetic". Even still oil samples were coming back fine at 20,000 miles from the trucking industry. I usually change the filter at 5000 miles and dump the pan at 10,000. This is the only way it is economical to run AMS Oil from what I can tell
