: what are the 6" lifts that dont increast track width?
skidooracer_99 04-16-2006, 07:20 PM for a 2500hd, i cant stand the look of the front tires so what lifts out there are full drop? i know of procomp and thats about it. is thats a decent quality lift and how is it to install. heard its a pain in the a$$
Reineke 04-16-2006, 08:05 PM Tuff Country adds 1/2" per side.
kylant 04-16-2006, 08:41 PM CST, one of the best IMO.
Diesel-N-Dust 04-16-2006, 09:23 PM Any lift that does not use replacement knuckles will not increase track width.
tophog 04-16-2006, 09:23 PM Skyjacker
kkirt1 04-16-2006, 10:51 PM Superlift!
Superlift!
Im looking at a 6" lift also.
kk,
I noticed you took some pictures of your install. What were the problems you encountered with the Supelift kit, and was it a pain in the *** to overcome them??
kkirt1 04-16-2006, 11:28 PM I had someone install the lift. The only issue I had was the drop bracket for the steering shaft contacts the frame before the wheels are at full lock. There is only about a 1/2" gap. With the long turning radius stock, I would like to have that extra 1/2" but...
Overall, very impressed with the lift. Since I didn't have the truck long before it went under the knife, I don't have much time in the seat to compare to but, the truck handles very nive and the ride with the bilstiens is not to harsh.
I love the truck! 3/4 ton, diesel, lift and mud tires, could you ask for more? :)
racinmike77 04-16-2006, 11:36 PM fabtech is much cheaper than the above, i dont know if it increases width however.
sweetdiesel 04-16-2006, 11:51 PM yes the fabtec does increase trackwidth
Thanks for the response kk:)
tophog,
How was the installation of your Skyjacker kit? Any major problems?
tophog 04-17-2006, 12:15 AM Sorry, I may be confused. My brother's truck actually. It's either a SuperLift or Skyjacker ...now that I think about it I think it's the Superlift. He had it installed and looks real good. I have the Rancho 4" myself and like the looks of my brothers a lot better with his tires still in the fenderwells. Here's a pict of his truck.

Bodysurfer 04-17-2006, 12:16 AM I have ProComp and have NOT had any problems and it rides great.
See more info in signature below and pics in my garage.
Here is my ride:

LOL@tophog, thanks:)
body,
how was your lift install? Any problems? Did it widen the front track, if so, how much?
All very good looking trucks thou:ro)
skidooracer_99 04-17-2006, 12:41 AM so the superlift doesnt increase track width?. also wondering, with 16x8's 4.5" backspace, and 315 75 16. would it clear better with stock width or the widened width?

Anyone?
kkirt1 04-18-2006, 11:06 PM The superlift does not increase track width. I have 17x9 which I just checked are -12mm offset. I once knew the diff between backspacing and offset but can't remember now. They set under the truck about the most I have seen on the 2500 with 35's. There are pics in my garage of a side view. On a GMC they do not rub and no cutting was required.
Bodysurfer 04-18-2006, 11:09 PM kkirt1, I checked out you garage....nice looking ride. Whats next on mods?
kkirt1 04-18-2006, 11:24 PM Not sure. It looks like you have a pretty long list but you got a jump start on me :)
I want to rig the low and high beams to stay on together. It looks pretty simple. A new front sway bar, new exhaust and a programmer are also on the list but don't want to fry the transmission or be pestered with CEL with a different exhaust.
Bodysurfer 04-18-2006, 11:26 PM Long list.... LOL. I just did one today.... the TC lockup light. I am itching right now to do something else.
skidooracer_99 04-20-2006, 12:29 AM kkirt i like the look of that lift. i think ill go with the superlift. any issues with that kit? would you get the same one again?
kkirt1 04-20-2006, 08:51 AM The only issue I had was the drop bracket for the steering arm contacts the frame before the wheels get to full lock. There is only about a 1/2" more turn left but the thing doesn't turn well to begin with. Overall, not a big deal. (There are pics in my garage)
Initially I thought the truck wandered a little on the highway. Now it doesn't seem to bad. Maybe it was just me getting use to driving the big pig!
I think it is a great lift. I can't say that I would do anything different. Good luck and happy motoring :)
MYY2KHOG 05-26-2006, 10:30 AM Hey kkirt, your truck really looks nice. I'm thinking of going the same route with my '06 GMC. Question, being as Superlift makes such a big issue of customer service, have you cantacted them concerning the hitting frame issue. Just wondering cause like you said, It's a very big turning radius already.
Thanks
Russ

Thanks! I love the truck. I'm not sure I would change anything. It is an all-around well built machine (toy :))
No, I didn't contact them. I guess I figured short of cutting a hunk out of the frame there was probably not much they could do. Now I'm thinking maybe I should. I will post after I call them next week.
The Tuff Country 6" increaes front track width by only 3/8" per side. IHMO, the knuckle kits (Rancho, Tuff Country, Fab Tech, Cognito) are better than the drop everything kits (CST, Pro Comp, and some others) if you plan actually take you truck off road. The knuckle kits are newer technology, simpler (the only drop the diff and lower control arms), and very durable.
Based on that--and it is just my opinion--if you buy a "drop everything" kit so you don't increase front track at all (except of course for the increase you get with your wider wheels and tires), buy the CST. Otherwise, accept the 3/8" per side you get with the Tuff Country and go with that.

That dude is the biggest "hack" on the internet! I would not trust any info by him!
I Know him personally, he used to live close to me. I consider him The "Cliff Notes " to lifted trucks. He may know some stuff, but if you you use his information you are lucky to get a "D" Remember High School?
duster 05-27-2006, 02:24 AM yeah I looked at that link and that was a shabbily put together info table!
I emailed tuff country and this is from the horse's mouth re: the 6" lift.
Thank you for your interest in our products. Our kit will increase your track with by ¾” per side. If you have any more questions let me know.

Still thats a lot better than the fabtech which I have been told is 1.5" per side. I think I am getting the CST lift which is damm expensive but seems really good. Here is a link to understand the IFS system better.

Also Peterson's current issue has a big write up on the new Rough Country lift and they give it a very solid thumbs up.
Tuff Country told me the 6" kit increased track by 3/4" total, or 3/8" per side. 3/8" per side is how much my 4" Tuff Country increased my front track over stock, and the 4" and 6" kits use the same knuckles.
