I am new to the site and was directed here by someone as I am in the market for a used duramax. We are looking at used first gens, and my wife actually prefers the look of GMC to Chevy but I would be happy with either. What kind of problems do I need to look for out there or be concerned with? We are looking for a LT crew w/ the allison etc. Any help is appreciated. I am currently looking over the site for info, thanks in advance.

Greetings. I own a 2004 LB7 and have not had any problems with it at all!! I love it!! Reading here you will find that the biggest problem on the early year LB7's are the injector's. Change your fuel filter with each oil change and enjoy your new/used diesel. Also, spending too much time here = to much money spent on your truck!! Since coming to the diesel place, I have bought edge with attidue, 4" exhaust, stage 2 cold air intake and extendable mirrors. Good luck.

Fuel injectors. Owner may have run a power box (performance enhancer) whick could cause the clutches in transmission to be in bad shape.

If you find a truck that you are seriously interested in, you can run a check on the VIN (vehicle identification number) and check the service history of the truck. There is a section on this forum that the check can be done.

There are more things, but off the top of my head, I don't recall. My 02 really has only had one fuel injector, so far. 142,000 KMs (85,000 miles)

Front suspension could be worn aswell.

if you are going to tow definitely get a diesel if you are not it doesnt much matter just more bucks
