The check engine light came on last week while driving. The next day, when starting the truck, the glow plug light wouldn't turn off after a few seconds. It woul only turn off after cranking over the engine. Temps here have been warm, so I don't know if the glow plugs are working or not because it does start fine.
Today, I took it in to the dealer. They said there's not much they can do at this point because of some controller (see printout below). They said they cleared the code, but the check engine light was on when I picked up the truck. I immediately called my service writer while driving 1 block away. He wants me to see if the glow plug light will turn off tomorrow when I start the truck in the morning.
Does anyone else have this problem? I guess it's a known problem since there is a bulletin on it. Is there anyone that has had this problem fixed? Any info is appreciated.
Thanks, Marco

Gm is currently working on a fix for this problem.. My dad called me at work the other day and he had just bought a LLY from us and he had an SES light on. He lives 4 hrs from the dealer I work at so I told him to take it to a local dealer and call me with the code. He took it to them they pulled the code then he called me and told me U0106 so I looked it up and called TAC.. They are apperently working to find a solution to this problem from what they told me

I'm being patient, but I just spoke to the commercial fleet manager today on an unrelated topic. He recommended talking to his favorite service writer tomorrow.
FYI: Today, the glow plug light would not turn off untill I cranked over the motor. The check engine light is still on constantly as it was when I picked it up from service yesterday.

I don't know if it's freeking out too much...I think it's more of the unknown that gets ya all worried like; Should I still drive it? Is it something I did? My new 40+ truck is brokehttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Angry.gif what do I do? My brother with the Dodge is going to have a field day with this onehttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Embarrased.gif..... the list goes on as your mind starts playing tricks on you. Then you get some answers and it becomes easer to deal with.
I know when I was driving down the road after my lift was installed, the ABS/Brake light came on. That scared the bejeebers out of me and was going nuts until I was able to get some answers to the problem.
Anyway as I'm sure it will all work out like patrick mentioned, It just takes time...and that is something we all hate is the waiting.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif

Hello and yes, I have the same issue. If you go to the lb7 forum and search under my name, you'll find my detailed post.
At this time the deal is this with our truck: at dead cold, such as in the morning, the wait is around 20 secs for the plug light to go off, start is always ok. After initial start, plug light will go right out or not come back on at all. Truck always starts ok.
The damn engine light has been on constantly. It does get annoying, esp. at night. I am hoping the resolution does not take forever. As long as everything else is fine, I can be patient.

I have an LLY with about 1800 miles on it. I had a glow plug problem early on. I don't remember what codes it had but they were diffrent from Uo106 code. They were for number 2,4 and 8 glow plugs. The problem was intermittant and I cleared them with a generic scanner. After a few days the light would come on again. When I took it to the dealer he could'nt find anything. He did stumble into a connector that wasn't seated in the ECM. After seating it hasn't come on again. I am sure that your problem will get ironed out.

UPDATE:
I've been calling my local service dept and trying to check to see if the new glow plug module is available. After getting the run around and no return calls from the service advisors at my local dealership, I called and left a voicemail w/ the service manager. The service manager was very courteous and told me when he would be calling me back (unlike the service advisors). He called me back promptly and told me the new glow plug module was ordered and I will be receiving a call from the parts dept next week when it arrives.
I hope this fixes the check engine light/ glow plug light issues.
FYI: when searching for this old thread... I ran across another w/ similar problems and a resolution here: http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=11165&KW=glow
