A Duramax was rolling next to me last night and it was loud. It definately had an exhaust system. I just saw the rear of the truck, so I couldn't see what year it was. It had the newer tail lights, so it could of been anywhere from '03 and up. Anyhow, so I don't know what Duramax it had, but are the LB7s or LLYs louder than the LBZs? I have a 4" stainless steel MBRP with front pipe (cat delete) and I don't know if my sounds as loud, but then again, I've never heard my truck from the outside. I need to get someone to drive my truck while I'm in their vehicle and have that person get on it to see how it sounds.

I'm thinking of putting a muffler delete, but not sure how much louder it will be.

Yeah, I think they are louder than the lbz. I think I read somewhere that is one of the things that GM advertised with the new lbz that is was quieter than the previous. I have Corsa exhaust on mine and it sounds stock still.... Im not complaining, after having flo-pro on my last diesel I welcome the peace and quiet.... Well at least for a little while.....:D

With your front pipe and cat delete do have codes? Didnt see anything in your sig that showed any kind of blocker etc... just curious.

ya mine still sounds stock too, but my neighbor has an lb7 with straight 4 inch and his rumbles at idle. his is 10 times louder than mine.

if you put the same exhaust on all three Lb7, LLY and LBZ, the LB7 would be the loudest..different turbo, no egr... the other two have the electronic turbo.

I sold an exhaust kit I had on my LLY to a friend with an LB7 and I couldn't believe the sound difference..sounded like a gasser!

Anyhow, I was hoping to put a muffler delete pipe on the truck thinking it would be a big difference, but I don't see how it could be with a straight through design muffler. Then again, on my Camaro, I was switching up my exhaust systems and had it open headers and it was obnoxiously loud. I installed bullet mufflers at the collectors thinking it wouldn't make that big of a difference and it does. I was very suprised as it too is a straight through designed muffler.

MAXMSCL, I may have a "silent" code, but it isn't setting of my check engine light. I have 4500 miles on the truck now in which 4000 of them I believe have been with the exhaust/cat delete. I'm sure my day is coming though.

all of them. i'd bet money it was an lb7.

LLY's sound like a jet engine when you straight pipe them. It's a unique sound.

The VVT's mask exhaust rumble and noise hugely. When I put a BD turbo on my LLY it sounded 100% different.

Go down to your local 7-eleven, throw your keys to the first person you see, I GUARANTEE they will drive it like they stole it. Then you will be able to see how loud it is at WOT when the leave....;)
