What do they do when servicing the tranny. Or what should they do. I took my truck in for regular service and asked for the tranny to be serviced also.(99.95)(Think it was a rip off) but did it any way. I got my truck back and checked to see what oil filter the put on and noticed the spin on tranny filter was not changed.(Dirty and I had marked the date on it when I changed it the last time.) I am going back to the stealer first thing in the morning.

did they change the fluid in the trans??

the fluid should be good for 30,000 miles or so, and I would change the spin-on every 5,000-7,000. The spin-on filters are about 8 dollars at an Allison dealer (20 at the GM dealer  ) and can be changed in about 10 minutes in your driveway. When you unscrew the old spin on, hardly any fluid leaks out...its pretty easy to change.

I would think that when they use the term "service" this would include at least a new filter and fluid change. I would call them tomorrow and ask them what all is included. Don't tell them you were in there already for the service. Once they admit to what should of been done, lay it on them. Let me know the outcome.:boxing:

I have done all of the other service on the truck myself, I was just short on time. I change the oil and filter about every 5000 and change out the tranny spin on filter at the same time....under the truck might as well change it too. I have about 32000 on my truck and they mentioned the tranny service at the dealer. My thinking was if they did not change the filter they may not have changed the fluid.

Went back to the dealer this morning after I called another dealer and asked what is involved in the tranny service. New dealer said they drop the pan replace the internal filter, replace the gasket, replace the spin on filter, and refill the tranny. My dealer said they drop the pan, replaced the internal filter used the same "replaceable gasket", and fill the tranny. Their "Transmission Guru" also told the service writers the spin on filter does not need to be changed until 60,000 miles. The service writer said their tranny "expert" was an idiot... He said change it about every 7500 miles. I was able to look at the pan bolts and they had at least had a wrench on them. Fluid looked new and they offered me a spin on filter for a discounted rate of 15 bucks. (Had one behind the seat). And I am still mad....

They STILL wanted to charge you for the spin on? Geeze! Last time I would go to that dealer for anything.
