Do the HOOT method. Nobod here has had an issue doing it that way that I've heard about.

The manifold is very easy to remove, I felt the same way as you, I did not want to drill it on the truck. I jacked up the front end and put it on jackstands, removed the wheel and the fender liner. Then unbolted the manifold, it is a piece of cake, I reused the gasket and no leaks. It takes maybe half an hour to remove and it is much easier to drill and tap off the truck imo. Good luck.

i have the time tomorrow so i am going to decide then. the engine will be cold so it should not be bad...how many bolts is it. any hard to get too. I think i might drill it then plug the hole till i get the mount form trippn

The only real trouble is getting off one of the bolts that attaches the manifold to the turbo intake pipe. They are pretty tight especially if you got some miles on your truck. You also MUST have a 12mm Box end wrench with the smaller points as thats what the heads of the bolts are. I took an old wrench and cut the box end off and then welded it to a small piece of pipe that I bent to the angle I needed to get in there and have some leverage so it was not too bad... if you can't do that then you will have a little more trouble but it can still be done, you just need a way to get leverage to break it free and then it will spin out by hand (be sure to take the hard one out first). Once you get that bolt its clear sailing (3 bolts on the turbo intake pipe, 4 on the heat shield, and 8 on the manifold itself), and yeah you don't need new gaskets.. just mark yours so you can put them back in exactly how they came out.
Also be carfeul when your tapping the mainfold, its thinner then you would think and if you go to far in the adapter will not seat down and seal, tap a little at a time until you have the fit you want, if you go to far you'll have to weld it in.. like I did :o: .
Also in case you don't care which side your thermo goes on I found the drivers side manifold to be a little easier to get out cause the bolts are easier to reach, but you do have to remove a CAC tube and wiggle it around the steering shaft.

Well Its Very Easy To Drill By Removing The Inner Shield.. And Also Very Easy To Thread The Hole.
I Have Not Seen Any Instructions That Recommends Removing The Manifold To Install A Pyro..

Literally hundreds here have done the HOOT method with no reported issues, me included. About 6 weeks after I bought my truck.

Hey,

Don't you do this with the truck idling? Geez, if he is reading this now under a different name, maybe he will slip up and say Thank you!! LOL

Sorry, didnt mean to jack the thread!!

Yep, idling. Wear safety glasses (I hate those things - I keep fogging them up!) Go slow with the drill and the tap. Suggest a good light source too (its dark under there). Its just one of the really simple things that came from this site that has been a tremedous help. And if Hoot is reading this, let me say THANK YOU for all the past hints and tips!
