lots of wood burned here at dieselplace to increase airflow to our beasts with filters kits and mods, homegrown and bought and paid for. regardless of what is done though the air still has to mash itself through the turbo unit... brainfreeze... what do y'all think about an intake mod that bypasses the turbo during non-turbo operation that gets closed off during turbo ops. this of course would require a damper or check valve type deal... ... thought i'd run this by you guys before i tried it myself...

turbo is always spooling. i'd think if you were to bypass the turbo at anytime then turbo lag would be an issue. just my 2 cents

The only 'non-turbo operation' is at idle - how much air-flow do you need at idle?

If we understand you correctly I don't think you would want to do this. Essentially it would be a NA truck under bypassed condition. The turbo package engine is set up for more air. More fuel and higher injector pop pressure. A little boost is beneficial all the time. The only time boost hurts is when it gets too hot, the turbo excessively restricts exhaust gasses from leaving the cylinder (which retains heat), or is too high (for compression ratio) and stresses head gasket head bolts etc. Low cool boost is nearly free energy.
What you are describing the ECM sort of does. It monitors the RPM, fuel, and other stuff and sets boost for the demand. Thats the benefit of using the electronic boost foolers. You can easily adjust the boost pressure accordingly.
