: Anybody around North central Ohio have straight pipe?
Z71 Grizzly 04-11-2004, 04:30 PM Before I can make a final decision on switching over to Duramax power I need to hear some with straight pipes. I don't care what size or if it has a muffler even I just need to know what one sounds like without the stock quietness. I have test driven two of them already and I love it, Quiet, smooth power, comfortable general motors interior. It is just too quiet! I'm used to hearing my dual pipes over my 5.7 engine and not a rattling over the exhaust. Can anybody compare it to any other exhaust or something? I'm sure I'll hear one sooner or later but I'm just deprived of Chevy power because I have to listen to that Dodge next door everyday. Thank's for the info. Adam
DMAXPWR 04-11-2004, 05:51 PM They sound like the Powerstrokes with straight pipes, minus the nasty flutter sound. they are also a little louder, or at least mine is.
Z71 Grizzly 04-11-2004, 06:54 PM The farting sound? The powerstrokes sound like they are farting down the road straight or muffler. More like a solid sound like cummins or unique sound?
case680e 04-11-2004, 08:18 PM Adam,
I still have my muffler but I did see/hear a Dmax with a dual rear exit exhaust system in Wooster last summer. It was just loud enough at a stop sign to draw my attention. It was more different than loud. As he left the stop, he got into it and it was louder than I would want to be pulling my 5er up a long hill. If I didn't pull a trailer and it only made that noise when I got into it, it probably wouldn't bother me. With my 14,000 pound RV in tow, I think it would be too loud.
I am in Columbus now but I grew up just south of you between Attica and New Washington. I was in Wooster to drop my son off at music camp.
Z71 Grizzly 04-11-2004, 09:17 PM Thank's Case680e. I went to the Dekalb indoor pulls last night and that was definetely loud in there. My neighbors friend " Pane in the Glass" got I think a 187ft pull with his gas Chevy. There was some Duramax's in the parking lot but all of them were plain jane stock. Have you heard a Cummins with 5" straight pipe or Big stacks? Was that duramax louder than they are? Thank's Adam
DMAXPWR 04-12-2004, 01:09 AM I have some friends with Dodges that have stacks, and my truck is just as loud or maybe even louder than theirs when I get on it.I have had alot of people tell me my truck is loud as hell. Also I was at the Dekalb super pull with some friends in my truck. I would've met up with you so you could hear it.There was 3 other D-Maxes beside me and none were stock. You must have been in the wrong area.Maybe we can meet up somewhere else sometime.
Z71 Grizzly 04-12-2004, 08:21 AM I was there Saturday, I didnt go Friday night. I saw Saturday some duallys and a few single wheel old and new style. Only about 5 or 6.
DMAXPWR 04-12-2004, 03:05 PM You should have went Friday and watched the truck pulls.Their were 2 good running Duramaxes that pulled. Both of them are members on this forum also. One had 2 stacks while the other had a single stack, so you could have got an idea what a straight pipe sounds like.
Z71 Grizzly 04-12-2004, 03:20 PM I know it, I wish I would have but I told my neighbor I would go with him down on Saturday. Where are you at in Southern Ohio? Dayton Cincinatti? There is a pull happening on May 29th on 224 in Greenwich, Ohio at 1:00. Not as special as the Dekalb but it's trucks tractors and good old fun. I don't think their will be strict rules for the diesel class.
DMAXPWR 04-12-2004, 06:38 PM I'm 65 miles southeast of Cincinnati. Right in the southern tip of the state along the river.I might try to make it to the Greenwich pull.Is there usually a good turn out.I also have a couple pullin tractors, so I may bring some tractors if you could give me an idea of what classes they have. Thanks alot
Z71 Grizzly 04-12-2004, 10:10 PM I will get the sheet from my neighbor that has the class order and scan it and post it. I know there will be A few modified boys there, you know with the rollcages. I hope there is a good turnout I want to see some good pulling action from all types of vehicles.
Dmax Tim 04-13-2004, 08:18 AM So how about some info on what Kyle and Justin did Friday nite?
DMAXPWR 04-13-2004, 04:02 PM Both had really good pulls.I think Kyle's was just a bit better, but Justin did not drive his.He let one of his friends pull it that always pulls. Both were good pulls as I said, but unfortunately Dodges were the top 3.
Z71 Grizzly 04-14-2004, 08:24 AM You just got to remember that the Duramax just won't quit ,hopefully and will show the Cummins guys what its all about. They will have some stuff out for them sooner or later. The Duramax is only a few years old http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Thumbs Up.gif
