Now that a lot of us are running secondary fuel filtration of any number of types, I am curious on various efficiencies of the filters we are putting on the CAT type heads. We all know that the CAT filter is a really good 2 micron filter (and that is backed by all sorts of data), but is there one better? What does it take to make those comparisons? There is a ton of information on beta, flow rate, % eff at ## micron, single pass eff, etc.
I am just looking to see if there may be a better alternative if after looking at all the ratings. It was through this type of discussion that we found the best oil filters to be Baldwin, wix/NAPA, and others.

Been auditioning a synthetic media 1 micron Beta 2000 filter element for a while now. This won't fit the teeny Cat heads tough, as we are large diameter much like the Mega...

I got a very comprehensive reply from Baldwin today in regards to this quest I have... Very interesting results... Happy reading and digestion...

Attached are test results comparing the BF7633 and BF7587 to the original Cat filters. If you need anything else, please let me know.

Great one to one measurements. If I read this correctly, the large baldwin is better than the large cat, but the small cat is better than the small baldwin. Either way, the efficiency is very good for both. What does the T.W. %Eff. stand for?

I am assuming that this is Time Weighted % effeciency. Your analysis is the same as I have concluded. I am looking at the SAE J905 spec now, and am trying to find a way to post it for you all to read...
Later, Nass.

And the Baldwin unit that I use is even a shade better yet...

Are the Baldwin BF7587 and the Cat 1R0749 comparable in price?
