Does anybody have any ideas on which is the best ipod dock that works good and works good in our trucks. Any thoughts would be great!

I'm still searching as well...

I CAN tell you that it's not the Axxess unit--I used to recommend them, but I don't anymore. Cheaper isn't necessarily better. :)

I bought the "DLO TransDock" for mine. It works great. You can check them out at www.dlo.com. I recently took a road trip where I had to change the radio station once because of static. Then it worked great. It's an FM transmitter with a cig. lighter adapter for charging. I like it because I can move it from vehicle to vehicle. I also saw a unit on the internet that is a plug and play interface. They claim you can use your steering wheel controls or cd controls to skip through songs or whatever. The down side is you have to plug it into the factory radio and you can choose whether you want to disconnect your xm or cd player to use this unit. I don't know anyone who's tried it, I just came across it on ebay. It's made by USA Spec. Called the Smart Ipod Car Connector. Try http://stores.ebay.com/caldash It's about $115.00.

hey i have the AUX Box i got it from cardomain.com around 125.00 w/ shipping. it charges the ipod and if you have steering wheel controls the fwd and rev for the tracks work. never any interference (static). easy to install. 5 mins. i always have my ipod on random so if i don't like a song i just fwd it. you can still use the ipods controls and listen to what ever playlist /genre / 80's etc. i love this unit. later john

Hey Coyote, after all the talk going on a few months back, I, like many others, bought the axxess unit. Although it has a couple of little quirks, I really like mine. I set up 5 playlists (books, hard rock, easy rock, top 40, all time favorites) and I just choose the list I'm in the mood for. I'm just curious what you now don't like?

Just wondering...

I just checked on cardomain and it said that it would not work on factory multi disc changer>? If so do you know of one that would work?

Try a few different ones. I went to Sam's club, and Costco. Bought the ones they had at the time, and then bought another one at Fry's, here in So CAL. None of them were static free, but we also have a problem with lots of radio brodcasting coming from San Diego, Orange, Los Angeles and the surrounding counties. SO, I returned everyone. I have a CD burner in my computer, and now I just burn CD's .. I get about 14 songs on a CD and times 6, that's enough to keep me interested. If not, I take a few extra, and I don't have to fiddle with all the hook up, static, and the like.

I own an iPod (obviously), but I have only found it useful on plane trips or runs, or anywhere when you are away from conventional equipment.

Wal-Mart also sells an inexpensive one. I think trial and error is your only bet. I struck out. I bought the expensive one from Monster, and it was just a bad, as a cheap one from Sam's Club. It was from Virtual Reality Sound Labs. It worked better than 3 others I tried, and was the simplest set up. Plug it in, and one wire, Done.

They all work for a while but static is the culprit as you drive around my area.

I am sure in a less populated area, most any unit would be fine.

That was the long answer. The short one is you need to try a few and see, so buy from a place that will allow returns!!!

Good luck, I'm stickin' with CDs.

AS A SIDE NOTE;
I find it humorous that we have gone to iPods, (a portable listening device) , and then spend hundreds (if not thousands) to accesorize it. They have docks so you can listen at home on your main system, or mini-sound systems to play it on like a portable radio. A way to play them in your car stereo system. And so many other gadgets to hook up to it, (all to make it work in a BIGGER environment).
What's even more hilarious, is that all it is , is a mini-hard drive with a 1.5 inch screen (for over 300 bucks) Good job Apple!

PS don't flame me for knocking it. I have one too!!!!

What about the Harmon Kardon unit that I saw in Crutchfield? It comes with a brain, display and joystick to control the unit. I am interested in it if it promises good sound, but it is $200! Anyone out there try it or know about it???
