New kid on block. Read so many threads here about problems before finally getting my first diesel, a LLY D/A. Have turned 10K on my D/A and just love it. No problems whatsoever and wonder why it took me so long in getting a diesel. It's stock and will stay that way!! Reading the tea leaves on this site it would appear most of the guys having problems are tweeking their D/A to push the envelope. Now is that the cause for so many of the thread about problems?? Sure there are some problems with a product, but it would seem that many of those on this board are created by owners screwing with the setup and then carping about GM not correcting the problem which they probably caused This is not posted to flame anyone but just one D/A owners view. Have a GREAT DAY!!:)

Try pulling a heavy load (10,000 to 12,000 lbs) in the summer heat, like most RV ers do. Under the right conditions (long upgrade) you will get the cooling system out of its normal operating range!

No, it's not the cause..

Mine is stock and my tranny runs hot, the fan runs all the time under load and it's just a matter of time until I overheat the engine... This is with a stock truck and pulling a load that is under the maximums...

cgibson, some of the mods make a great truck better. :) I have very good luck with mine with mods. Overheating is my only complaint, but they did that stock. The mods actually helped.

There are quite a few people here pushing the limits, but most of them understand the consequences.

Again my LLY has never overheated, hot yes 230 if you call that hot, i say no though. If my 750 Hp nascar engine can run safely consistently at 230 well then so can my DMAX...

What is OHing to you guys, 230...240...250...? Or when the DIC says so? I remember a while back there was a service bulliten where they were "fixing" temp guages and DIC warnings because the OH message would come on too early and that the guage was wrong..

I can tell you that my stock temp guage is way off from what my EDGE says and if you guys are going by the stocker, maybe get another more accurate guage.

No overheating here either, been happy with mine.. And people screw with their stuff just to be different, that and having a truck that could put a lot of regular cars to shame on a 1/4 mile run is really something, especially when the truck weighs 6000lbs. Thats like watching a 400lb lineman do the 40 yard dash quicker then the running back.

I pull a 10K pound trailer and have had a few problems with the D-Max.

One was a reflash that needed to be done to eliminate some knocking, and the other was a turbo vane position sensor that needed replacement. I feel that both problems were very minor, and my service department acted quickly when I pointed them in the right direction.

Overall, I'm very pleased with the D-Max. It gets super gas mileage, pulls hard loaded or not, and handles way better than the other big two. I also bought an '05 LS ext. cab 4x4 w. snow plow and heavy duty trailering package for $31K OTD. Can't beat that.

Please keep in mind that although we have 30k+ members here and maybe less than 1% of those have actual problems with their Duramax...this entire website and all its members account for a very very very very small amount of the total Duramax owners on the roads today.

Also, most come to these sites just for the sole purpose of asking about problems. If you notice there are no Diesel websites dedicated to "How much we love our Diesels"... ;)

On sites like ours you will see issues because that is what we are here for. We have talented members here with corporate ties and we band together to figure things out while the manufacturers deny there are even problems.

Sure, any time you add power to any type of oem motor you are likely to run into issues at some point. Power is addictive and Diesels are SO responsive to little upgrades.

If you are happy with your trucks power off the showroom floor, which MANY are, then so be it.

carry on

Glad to see a few others here who also believe in bone stock for long term reliability and good all around performance. Mine has been running so good (knock on wood) that I don't want anyone to touch, adjust or almost even look at anything under the hood.

Man, it must just be my D/A and my two buddies with D/A, but we've all had at least one fuel injector replaced. Mine, 2005 with 25k #1 injector. My two buddies, 2004's two injectors at 80k for one, and 2 injectors at 60k and one at 110k for the other. when mine was towed to the dealership another 04 D/A was right behind me with an injector failure at 22k. For $40k these things are absolute junk. They ought to recall the fuel system as I can't believe that every person I've talked to has had an injector fail. Four for Four is a 100% failure rate.
